Dch70?

Comcasts DCH70 just arrived but Im not sure why? No do I know how to connect it or what advantages it has for my Seiries 2?

I called last week to try and figure out this whole DTV debacle(thought Comcast customers were good togo). I was told by the end of this year we would be all digital and I needed a DCT box and was going to cost me an extra 5.10 each a month, however I could use a DTA box for any additional tv not connected to a Tivo and these would be free up to two. So what is the DCH70 they sent me?

I think just about EVERYONE scrued up on this deal, it doesnt appear anyone knows whats going on with DTV mostly becouse its differant for differant communities but it still seems like false advertizing to me. Comcast says if you have cable your fine which isnt exactly true, your good now for atleast a year. And without equipement in hand I dont think alot of Tivo customers know exactly how to make themselves ready either.

Michael,

In some areas, Comcast is eliminating all of their [non-local] analog cable channels and moving them to digital. The TiVo Series2 cannot receive digital channels on its own. To continue to receive those cable channels after the Comcast moves them digital, you would need to connect your TiVo Series2 to a cable company box like the DCH70.

The alternative is to upgrade to a TivoHD and get a CableCard from the cable company. The TivoHD has digital tuners built-in so it has no need for any other box.

I understand all that now but what is the differance between what they were supposed to send me and what I got? Mine looks nothing like this: http://picasaweb.google.com/virgegx/ComcastDTAUnboxing

It is possible they were out of stock on that model, so they sent you a different one.

The DCH70 is one of Motorola's newest boxes.

Supposedly, the Pace DTA box is not supported by TiVo anyways.

The DCH-70 is the Cablecard equipped replacement for the DCT-700, AFAIK. It should fully work with TiVo.

Michael, the link you posted is for the Pace DC50X, which Comcast is calling their DTA box. This (currently) allows customers to continue to receive the Extended Basic channels (32-71), plus some additional channels that were previously dropped (Hallmark, Oxygen). Originally, I picked up three of these from my local Comcast office. I had no problems connecting one to my TiVo (Toshiba RS-TX20) and using remote code 10104-B. Other people have reported problems, but I think those have been with DTS2 units (mine is a single tuner).

I returned one of the DTA's and picked up a Motorola DCH70 for my main TV (no TiVo). This allows me to get things such as ON DEMAND and the music channels.
