S2 USB port speeds?
the series2 USB ports, are they USB 1.1 or 2.0, or model dependent?

2.0 for the Tivo wireless adapter only, so far.

Note that you don't get anywhere near USB 2.0 - or even 1.1 - transfer rates when copying a file off your Series 2 Tivo.

Actually, they are model dependent.
Quoted from the Wiki ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TiVo):

The early Series2 units, models starting with 110/130/140, have USB1.1 hardware, while all other systems have USB2.0. There have been four major generations of Series2 units. The TiVo-branded 1xx and 2xx generations were solid grey-black. The main difference was the upgrade from USB1.1 to USB2.0. The 5xx generation was a new design. The chassis is silver with a white oval in the faceplate. The white oval is backlit, leading to these units being called 'Nightlight' boxes. The 5xx generation was designed to reduce costs, and unfortunately this also caused a noticeable drop in performance in the system menus as well as a large performance drop in network transfers. The 5xx generation also introduced changes in the boot PROM that make them unhackable without serious soldering. The 6xx generation resembles the previous 5xx model, except that it has a black oval. The 6xx is a new design and the only model available today is the S2DT with dual-tuners and a built-in 10/100baseT Ethernet port as well. The 6xx is the best performing Series2 to date, outperforming even the old leader, the 2xx, and far better than the lowest performing 5xx.

For the fastest wireless speed get a TiVo brand wireless adapter. For the fastest wired speed get either a Linksys USB200M or a Belkin F5D5050.
Regardless of which TiVo you have or which version USB ports it has those adapters will provide the absolute fastest TiVoToGo speeds possible from a TiVo connected to a USB network adapter. (Note: you'll get even more speed by upgrading to a new S2DT unit, which has built in wired ethernet and a much faster processor then older S2 TiVos)

I've been "sharing" my wireless tivo branded adapter for the last month or so between my two tivos (every couple days to let them update)... suxors
Found the Belkin F5D5050 for $12.75 each shipped on egay... picked two of them up, my place is wired and I was getting sick of the inconsistent signal strength/speeds.
I logged into one of my units with Firefox and started a transfer... 450-475KB/sec. calculates out to around 3.8-4Mbits/sec (with overhead). I need to verify if I have QOS throttling enabled... 'cus that sucks

Let me guess you have a 540 series unit? The one with the glowing TiVo logo on the front. If so then those speeds are about as good as you're going to get. You can get slightly better performance by tuning the live TV buffer to channel 0 and pausing playback on a recording from Now Playing, but we're talking maybe another 50-75Kbps at most. The 540 series TiVos were seriously lacking in the hardware department, and no matter how good your USB adapter is nothing can help overcome those deficiencies. Could be worse, my Toshiba DVD unit, which is based on the same 540 platform but with the added overhead of recording in DVD compliant resolutions and bitrate, can usually only muster about 300Kbps when doing a TTG transfer.
I wasn't kidding when I suggested upgrading to a S2DT unit. They use a much better hardware platform and have a built in Ethernet port, so they get 10-15x the TTG speeds your seeing on your current TiVo. They still wont max out your network connection, but they're a heck of a lot faster then those crappy 540 series units. Or better yet get a TiVoHD, they're even faster.

Using MSIE, I got as much as 850K/s on v11 then on v9.4 (about 650k/s) from my THD.

ya... sadly my bedroom unit is a 540... the other room has a Toshiba SD-H400 (IIRC, non-burner model)... the Toshiba does seem to transfer about the same (maybe a tiny bit faster)... oh well.
just wanted to make sure it wasn't me LOL!
