Fringe "Safe" 12/2/2008
I LOVE this show. Tied with Sons of Anarchy as my favorite show.
What's up with the apple halves appearing right before the last 2 commercial breaks? I noticed that the 'seeds' were actually wombs with fetuses.

Maybe it's an oblique reference to Walter's genetic manipulation of Peter.
I look forward to this show each week and it's the only show besides Dexter that I watch live. I don't care if the science is hokey or the effects cheesy (those X-mas blinking hypnotizing lights 2 eps ago cracked me up). I love the ongoing storyline and mystery.
At the end of the ep., I was sure Massive Dynamics woman was lying about kidnapping Olivia; turns out she wasn't.

I've not been able to figure out the meaning of the object that shows before the commercial break - I've seen smoke trails, leaves, apples, hands, etc., and there's a dot that can be anywhere (upper/middle/lower and on left/right). No pattern to it.
(I started tracking this in case there was a pattern to the length of the commercial break, but for all breaks except one I logged, it was 90 seconds.)
I wonder if the fetus-seeds in the apple have been there since the beginning? Or if the other symbols have other interesting designs?

The frog has what I think is a Greek symbol on its back. But I'm not learned enough to know exactly what it is.
Vibrating through solid walls? Didn't Gardner Fox come up with that for the Silver Age Flash?

Interesting episode. Hopefully those who were complaining early in the season about the science not being exactly right are still watching, to realize that this is science fiction and there's no reason to pick it apart. Just sit back and enjoy.

FREAKING LOVE THIS SHOW!
Last night's episode was great and OF COURSE it ends on a cliffhanger that won't be resolved till January...

Every new discussion thread for each episode of Fringe should say where the bald man appeared -- I looked twice through this episode and still didn't find him!

Does he supposedly appear in every episode? I've only seen him in two eps that I know of.

The Observer was in the very first scene on a security monitor in the bank right before they cut them off.

Science fiction is based on science. I’d call Fringe a fantasy show, since it’s based on whatever the writers want to do from week to week.
Science fiction that doesn’t adhere to good science without a darned good explanation always deserves to be picked apart.

Wow! I didn't realize this. I went back and looked at the ep. and yep, there he was. You're very observant spiked!
A bald, hairless giant Easter Egg each episode....what fun!

I hate those breaks because they seem to be longer than 90 seconds. I love it when they tell me exactly how many 3 second skips to use.

Star Trek using a transporter with a transporter pad on the ship and a pad on the planet is science fiction. Fringe transporting someone with a machine on one end and nothing on the other end is pure fantasy. I half expected that they would bring the corner of the room that guy was standing in along with him. Not to say I didn't enjoy the episode.

Anna Torv's face fascinates me. She's not beautiful and she's definitely not ugly. She looks like a friend of mine and she doesn't. There's something about her face that makes my mind wander. Maybe Walter experimented on me.

Hokey science and all, this episode was really strong. I guess I'm perfectly willing to overlook the science now if it means a well-planned story arc that develops over several episodes. Really well done.

I see the same thing as far as her look changes dramatically when the camera angle changes, I really enjoy her in Fringe, and I like the fact that you hit the nail on the head, she's normal looking, not pretty, not ugly.

It's always the last commercial break before the end of the episode (about the 50 minute mark) and it's usually about 3 minutes long.

The only thing I have to say about this is if Fringe can do a 90 second commercial break, why can't the other networks?
Glad I gave the show another chance after the pilot. I do wish they would move a little bit faster with the serial parts. Sure this entire episode was serial (at least that's what I think) in nature but I could still do with more questions being answered.

Fringe is the experiment. If it turns out that they can make more (or at least the same amount) by charging more for fewer ads, then they will. I suspect, however, that the wider-spread it becomes, the more resistance there will be from advertisers.

I have 2 somewhat obvious questions:
1) Does the German work for Massive Dynamic? It doesn't appear so, despite MD's own parallel plan to kidnap her.
2) How did the German find out about Walter's device? It's been anonymously sitting in hidden safety deposit boxes for 20+ years, and he's a lot younger than Walter.

Walter did say he was being watched back then.

There wasn't "nothing on the other end". There was a tubular ring put down on the ground in the field.
There is nothing but pure solid science here!

Here's the semi-official video of his appearances http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GZ7k3s5UqUY
Somewhere there's a higher resolution copy of it, but this is still pretty cool.

He was talking about the other end - the jail cell in Germany. There wasn't anything there to specify who or what would be transported.

The effects are so bad though, it hurts. I can't believe how bad the effects are. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the twilight zone, and that show had little to no effects. I'd rather they did that. Cut away for the "effects" and show people reacting to it. Otherwise it's just too distracting how bad the effects are.
Other than that, I do really like the show, so I keep watching. But it does just annoy me.

Maybe the crap he had the lawyer bring helped them snatch him from the cell. Walter did say the machine could grap anyone anywhere in time as long as you knew where they were at that time.
