You should be fine with the latest version of IC. You just need to make sure that the adapter that you are going to use is supported by Tivo. Just look on the Tivo support site.
Also, you might need to change your network for a bit if you are going to use wireless. I'm not sure of the Tivo version but some of the older ones do not use WPA. So, if the IC version does not then just use WEP until you get the new software download and then change to WPA.
Oh, and WPA only works for the Tivo branded adapter.

What I'm considering is purchasing a 160 or 250gb drive (they are dang cheap these days) and InstantCake it.... what I understand is it will install a "basic" TiVo operating system that the TiVo service will upgrade on its own to the most current version.
I need to confirm what version of InstantCake has the USB enabled version of the TiVo software?
