Tivo HD doesn't find my clear QAM channels

I've spent over an hour searching the forum, but couldn't find my particular issue, so here goes.

I have analog cable and my Sony HD TV picks up all my local Knology clear QAM channels. (85.5 for NBC, 902 for CBS and 905 for FOX. Not 90.2, but 902) My new Tivo HD picks up the 85.5 but doesn't seem to scan any channels in the 900s. If I try and manually tune it in, it still won't recognize it. I'm stuck. I have no desire to pay an extra $25/month for digital and HD cable when I was able to pick up the local changes on my TV for free.

Any thoughts? I'm stumped here and starting to regret my Tivo HD purchase.

Thanks,
Mike

The TiVo may be interpreting the virtual channel numbers differently than your Sony TV. They are probably there but you need to find the right virtual channel number. Your location of 'southeast' doesnt help us know where you are. You might go to AVS forums and look for a local forum for your area and find out the actual physical channel locatiions as that might be the channel number the TiVo is looking for.

You should probably return the TiVo if you're looking to work with QAM. TiVo can receive it, but you won't get any guide data and can only setup manual recordings.

TiVo works great with OTA, analog cable, digital cable - or any combination of above. It's not designed to work with clear QAM. I believe a MythTV box, Media Center PC and some other generic DVRs do. You might want to check those out.

Sadly, I don't care right now if I get guide data, I just want to get to watch and manually record the shows in HD.

I'm in Huntsville AL on Knology cable.

Thanks for the response. I hate asking dumb questions, but What exactly is an AVS forum?

Since you're familiar with "Clear QAM" tuning go here:

http://www.silicondust.com/hdhomerun/channels

enter your zip code and see how you do. I do pretty much exactly what you would like to do and am quite happy with the TiVo functionality "manually"! I had no problems with the TiVo tuner sensitivity but maybe you've got a signal (SNR) that that's just a bit weak for the TiVo tuner. Check on those that you do receive for signal strength. Compare the tuner in your TV and the TiVo.

Check the properties of your cable modem for it's performance statistics. Maybe you've just got a poor drop. How many splitters and TV's do you do? Don't be real quick to blame the TiVo. I tweaked my drop with an amp and directional taps but that's another deal.

Here's some interesting reading at the AVS Forum: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/forumdisplay.php?f=35

Check out post # 1371 on this thread. Seems like people are complaining that different TVs (and TiVo) pick up the channels differently for Huntsville Knology:

When I installed my TivoHD, it would not tune QAM channels until I had it perform a full channel scan.

Have you done a channel scan and added any channels in the 900's to your channels I receive?
