Multi-home network question

Question for y'all...

I have my TivoHD connected to my wireless network using a Linksys wireless router... My laptop computer is also on wireless... TivoHD gets the updates and guide data just fine, and I can transfer shows to from Tivo Desktop without a problem, but it is really really slow, especially hour long HD shows...

Can I multi-home the Tivo? i.e. Leave the Wireless adapter connected to the Tivo for guide updates, but when I want to transfer shows to the laptop and back connect a crossover cable and assign IP's... This will get me much faster transfer speeds to Tivo Desktop...

I know the crossover cable will work, but will I need to redo the network settings on the Tivo every time I want to connect the laptop to transfer a show? Will Tivo keep the settings, recognize that the laptop is attached, and just work? I know the 2 networks will have to be on different subnets, just don't want to have to redo settings each time...

My other thought... I have an extra wireless router in my closet... I could disconnect the Tivo wireless adapter, plug the Tivo into this router with ethernet, and set up this router as a bridge to the other router... Then just plug my laptop into this same secondary router when I want to transfer shows...

any thoughts?

You would have to change the setting each time to change. The THD will only work with the Tivo network adapter which uses Wireless-G speeds. I get about 600-700k/sec speeds from my THD.

I heard you can hook a wireless-N router to the tivo as a bridge and use another N router to your network for faster speeds but I never tried that.

I thought that I had found a way to make this work on my old S2 - but have no need for the config anymore - so it is lost in the sands of time.

I think, if you manually configure the IP address for each adapter, separately (to the same IP address) - then it coped - ignoring then USB device when the X-over was connected and vice versa. It may be you had to physically remove the USB - but I didn't have to screw around reconfiguring all the time. I'll see if I can find notes from then ... not likely, but who knows

Check out The TiVoToGo on HD TiVo FAQ to see if your transfer speeds are what they should be. On a TiVo DVR, transfer rates are NOT network limited and a faster network will most likely not increase the transfer speed significantly.
