SD Locals

I have an antenna connected to my HR10-250 to get my local channels in HD. Unfortunately, CBS kind of sucks -- its usually all pixellated and sometimes unwatchable. (Actually, this is true on my DirecTV box with the AM21 attached, also. Does anyone know why? I'm in Boise, ID, if that matters).

But, back to the TiVo. In my channels list, all I get listed are the HD channels, but not the SD ones, i.e., 2-1, 4-1, etc., but not 2, 4, etc. How do I get the SD channels listed? I know I get them, just can't see them in the channel list. All the other locals come in fine through the antenna -- just not CBS. I watch a *lot* of CBS programs and until we get the locals through the dish, I'd like to record them in SD. Can anyone help me? I'd rather not have to unplug the antenna.

I hope this made sense. Thanks.

If you are referring to the OTA SD channels, they won't be listed on the HR10 because the HR10 can't tune SD OTA, only HD. The AM21 can't either. And since you mentioned the AM21, you must also have an HR21, right?

As to the pixelation of your CBS OTA HD, this is caused by multipath. Think ghosting with analog. Try adjusting your antenna a little bit.

Re: SD locals

Yes, I realize I can't get the SD channels OTA. As I said, we get our SD locals through the satellite. I can get them on the HR21 but don't see them listed on the TiVo. We have tried all sorts of contortions with the antenna but that doesn't seem to help. All I want here is to figure out why I don't see the SD locals in my channel list. Since we get them through the dish, why can't I see them in the list?

Your TiVo doesn't think you're authorized for local channels. Try this:

Log into your DirecTV account.
Goto this support page
Expand the entry "Please Call Customer Service X722"
Click on the link shown in "try refreshing your service by clicking here."

Alternatively, call 800–531–5000 and enter "extension 722" from your home phone.

Sorry about that. I had a bit of trouble following your first post.

Some locals are MPEG4. Are yours? If so, the HR10 won't be able to see them.

But the antenna will not make a difference. That is only for digital OTA.

do you have a 2nd dish aimed lower on the horizon (72 degrees i think) than the others - that's where our SD locals get sent from (I can't get 'see' that satellite so i've been without locals since moving here).

then i guess the obvious - did you edit the list of channels you receive - and they don't show there? I've never been able to receive the SD locals yet they are available for me to include on my list (Which i've done so i can search the listings for manual programming on my cable one lifeline service - since i can't get OTA HD locals on my hr10-250 either - i'm behind table rock, signal from deer point is blocked).

good luck, Clarice

Are you using a "Favorites" list? If so go into setup and edit favorites, then make sure the boxes next to the channel you want are checked.

Check exactly what type of antenna is required for each station in your area: http://www.antennaweb.org/aw/Address.aspx

According to this chart

http://members.cox.net/oknewshawk/DTV_LIL_CITY.html#B

Boise SD Locals are MPEG-4. HR10's do not handle MPEG-4 and therefore they will not be available on the HR10. You should be able to record them on the HR21.
