Can't watch videos from Tivo Desktop

Just replaced the crashed HD on my laptop. Installed Windows XP Media Edition. Downloaded and installed Tivo DeskTop 2.6. Wirelessly downloaded 6 tv shows from my Tivo to my laptop. When I click Play Video from Tivo Desktop it opens WMP11 and shows the video as Now Playing, but I get no picture or sound. Same thing happens if I open WMP11 and point it to the Tivo files. I downloaded the VLC media player and get the same results. The Tivo files appear to be appropriate sizes, so I'm pretty sure they downloaded. I'm going on vacation in a remote area where I only get one tv station so I'd really like to be able to watch these shows at night.

You probably don't have a compatible mpeg-2 codec
You can use the Windows XP Video Decoder Checkup Utility to see what you have in your system.

If you need a codec, you may find something here
http://www.videohelp.com/tools/sections/codecs
I've used nothing from this list, I just found it in a google search for free mpeg-2 codecs.

Thanks!

Yep, that did it. I downloaded and installed the K-Lite Codec Pack from here
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/...codec_pack.htm
and all is well.
Thanks.

I just found another forum that recommended the Zoom Player (standard is free) instead of using Windows Media player to view the shows and that worked like a charm. The link for the player is:
