Viewing Tivo recordings on the web

is there a way to view the contents of my Tivo from afar?

I know I can transfer files over my "home" network with Tivo Desktop, but what I really want to do is watch my Tivo recordings (or live) from across the world, likely over broadband.

I know about Sling Box, but was hoping I could do this without any more hardware.

thanks

The Slingbox is the way to go. Love my new Slingbox Solo. Buy.com had it for $129 and free shipping.

Thanks, I was afraid of that - oh well, at least if I must buy hardware, Sling Box has a good reputation.

Another option is to forward the Tivo's IP address in your router to the outside so you can download the .tivo files. Downside: the files are huge(at least 1gb for an hourlong SD show).

Keep in mind that you'll need a decent upload speed for either of these solutions. While the Slingbox will work at lower speeds the resulting video quality may not be what you'd like.

Other advantages of the Slingbox is the ability to basicly remote control your TiVo - affording the opportunity to watch "live" TV as well as schedule programming, manage your Now Playing and To Do lists, Swivel search, etc...
