Erratic conversion
I have purchased Desktop Plus (2.6.2) with the prospect of transferring and converting recordings for my IPOD. Although it works fine for SD recordings,I have been unsuccessful with HD recordings regardless of duration or file size. In once case the TivoConvert program started but never reported progress although it was consuming nearly 100 percent of CPU. In another case progress stopped at 13 percent while CPU was at 100 percent utlization. I have tried to convert to different format with the same results.
Any suggestions to solve this issue? TIVO tech support was not able to help.

Sadly, I gave up on Tivo Desktop for "Tivo To Come Back." pyTivo does a fantastic job for me.

Could this be a transfer problem and not related to conversion?
I have additional information regarding this issue. As I was watching the original unconverted recording using Windows Media Player, I noticed that some frames were skipped over and eventually WMP simply froze at around 13 percent of the recording. So maybe the issue is not so much with the the conversion and instead with the transfer.

I had one HD recording that stopped at 99% and refused to go any further, which sent me on a long goose chase for alternative conversion programs.
Turns out it may have been just that file.
All of my SD programming is converting properly.
Subsequent HD programming converts, with 2 caveats. First, it takes a long time. Seriously. Maybe 12+ hours for a movie. Second, the icon in the system tray doesn't give the little indicator that shows it is converting. The process continues to work, but you just have to trust it will finish up. When it does, you do get the pop-up saying a file has been converted.

Chazas, can you describe your computer (memory, cpu)? I am using a 3 year-old laptop with 1 GB and a 1.67GZ Centrino. That'll give me an estimate of how long I can expect to wait for converting a HD recording.

By the way, I spoke too soon. Whatever my conversion problem is it is not an HD problem, as I ran across another program, SD this time, that would hang at 99% converted. The problem must lie in the original recorded TiVo file, as I rebooted and then re-transferred it to my computer before trying to convert again, and had the same result.
Good luck.
