Streaming iTunes playlist from Mac to Tivo

I know this is something that a little experimentation and searching should be able to solve, but I have a time limit, and so far my searches have only turnd up partial solutions.

I'm trying to figure out how to stream a somewhat large iTunes playlist (about 700 songs, 3GB worth) from a Mac to an S2 TiVo and play the playlist in random order.

Can I do this in TD, or can I use pyTivo, Galleon, or another HME app for this?

Thanks,
Dylan

Depends on the format of the music. If it's all MP3 then Galleon is probably best. However if the songs are AAC then you'll have to use TiVo Desktop. There are instructions for getting AAC playback to work on Macs here...

However be warned that AAC playback only works for unencrypted music. So if the songs you're trying to play were purchased from the iTunes store you're out of luck.

pyTivo will also do unencrypted AAC, but not iTunes playlists. Perhaps you can export them to .m3u or .pls?

Thanks. All my music is in iTunes, but was ripped from CD's to mp3s. I tried using Galleon, I have an old version (1.9 installed) but had trouble getting the newest version to install (said I was missing Java).

It turns out Tivo Desktop does what I'm looking for pretty fine. In case others are as confused as I was about how to get a playlist to shuffle.

Navigate to the playlist from the Tivo by going to Music, Photos, and More-->Music-->Playlist

Once you're in the playlist, highlight a song, press select on the song, then select options.

From there you'll be able to have the playlist either shuffle or repeat.

Probably pretty obvious to most people, but I had a hard time figuring this out, and searching didn't reveal the answer quickly. (possibly because I kept searching for "random" rather than "shuffle".

The other way is to simply highlight the folder/playlist shown and press the PLAY key on the remote

I like Galleon, really like the lyrics support.
