No signal

I have a tivo hd unit and it is using one M-card. Each time I change channels I get the words on my screen No Signal for about 3 seconds and then the picture shows up. Is this normal?

Sounds like its the TV complaining about the 'no signal.' Do you have the THD on fixed, hybrid, or native resolution? Hybrid and native will take longer for the THD to change channels because it has to keep changing the resolution to match whats there, ie: 720p on 1 channel, 480i on the next, 1080i on next up, etc.

If you have the 'old-fashioned' TV, set the resolution to fixed 480i, on a HDTV set, try 720p or 1080i, fixed. You can do this via the tivo menu or the format button on the front.

When its set to fixed, the channel changing is faster because the resolution don't need to be changed every time.

How does fixed work, do I need to set each channel myself? or will all channels use one setting?

Output is fixed to one setting. That's the point.

Fixed is set to one resolution, ie: 720p fixed is what is sent to the TV regardless of the resolution is on the current channel, whether its 480i, 720p, or 1080i.
