Last Comic Standing 6/5/08 *may contain spoilers*

Ok, did I miss part of the show or something? My recording started at 8:30pm EST and it appears that I missed at least part of it. No opening credits, no introduction of the talent scouts, no weeding through all the crappy people in the empty club. Whatsupwidat?

My program guide showed My Name Is Earl at 8 then LCS at 8:30. But when LCS started it had clearly been on for a while.

I would say it had to have started at 8 since at 8:30 they were already starting the showcase for San Francisco. I wonder if there will be a re-run on Bravo with the full two hours.

I just looked over on the NBC message boards and they did in fact change the time. Too bad they didn't feel it was necessary to update the guide data. Maybe I'll lose interest and stop watching before the end of the summer.

There were reruns on Bravo last weekend and it also seems they are re-running it on the Fox Reality Channel.

i clearly missed the beginning of san fran. which i wasnt too upset about, as the auditions to come back later that night usually stink and harp on how funny the unfunny ones arent, which never turns out to be funny.

more annoyingly, every 20 minutes or so the screen would go to black for 5 minutes and i only get audio, which was unbearable. i'll have to look for a rerun

I wonder how hard it is to be a blur-o-vision person. At about the 11 minute mark, they are doing one of those stupid "photo booth" things and there's some woman bouncing around wearing a white, halter-top type dress. There's a point at which there may be a little nipple showing, and you can tell it's been blurred - not pixilated like that top-heavy, 'my body is my comedy' lady dancing around on stage, but subtly blurred. Do they have to review the footage frame by frame? Talk about tedious!

Note to LCS producers/NBC/whoever: On a show like American Idol, the 'worst of the worst' actually tend to be pretty comical ("Let my people gooooo" anybody?). On a comedy talent search show, the worst of the worst - even by definition if not easily apparent in reality - are NOT FUNNY! Give them their 15,20,30 seconds or whatever in the audition rounds, then keep them off my TV screen! There is NO reason to give them "showcase" or "countdown" time as well. Just painul, not at all amusing.

By the way, I just checked my recordings on both my HR10-250 and one of my HR20s, and on both they recorded a full two hours of content. I don't know if that's due to time zone differences (I'm in the Central time zone) or what.

One thing I've noticed about the rotating judges thing - it seems like the judges overall are having a much better time doing this than having the same three judges traveling around having to see all the acts. Part of the fun for me was watching the judges reactions. A LOT less straight-faced, man-am-I-getting-tired-of-all-this type reactions.

Not sure I agreed with the foot-tatoo/dead M&Ms guy making it through, but at least they left the spastic red-headed guy and the dolt with his shirt over his head behind.

Finally, not that this show would benefit a lot from HD, but why not? I suppose it's the whole cost thing again. Oh well, still enjoying the show anyway!

Toronto - WOW. Those guys were ALL funny! I cannot believe they only gave them two slots. TWO!?!? WTH???? They really should weigh it by talent vs. how big the city is. Or something! I laughed out loud at every one of them! The other cities so far this year, I smiled but that was about it.

I remember last year some of the comedians in foreign countries were funny and they only got two slots as well.

At least they picked Sean Cullen. I've never seen him before but I think he's just terrific! He's got great delivery...I bet he does a dead on William Shatner!

Darrin Rose -- is he the long lost twin brother of Tina Fey's "Guy who moved to Cleveland" boyfriend on "30 Rock" (Jason Sudeikis) or what? They eerily look AND sound a like!

Jeff Dye already wins for "best looking comic standing" (or something like that). He was the guy who was wearing the florescent green shirt and could easily be the younger brother of NBC's own "Chuck" (Zachary Levi). He got through, although I'm not sure if he was the strongest in that city. But I'm sure the girl vote helped.

There have been a lot of good ensembles this year. I really liked the uppity couple and the two guys with the folk songs. They could probably run two contests this year, one for individuals and one for groups.

I think the entire process of taking a larger # through from NY and LA is just ridiculous. In all cases comedians who are funnier in other cities are not making it to the semi-finals just because of some arbitrary city quota.

I think this is the first time they've chosen any teams. Heck, I don't even remember ever seeing teams in the auditions. I think this is also the first year that I didn't notice any true pros.

I haven't found any of the duos or trios funny. I agree the arbitrary city quotas leave out good talent. There have been many more that could have made it in the smaller cities, it's disappointing.

Yea, what was the purpose of the photo booth? It wasn't funny. It wasn't insightful. It was just a waste of time.

I thought the two "old" men were pretty funny.

I think they really should have given out more spots. There was a lot of funny people that got left behind while at the same time some not so funny ones made it through in other cities.

That's who they reminded me of too.

I saw this guy at a local comedy club. I guess that makes him a pro. He actually did some of the same jokes on the show as he did when I saw him in November.

Lots of the comedians had been doing paid gigs for years. So I would consider them pros. Just none are 'knowns' already as in years past.

I think the definition of "pro" as far as this show is concerned is a comedian that has been "discovered" and gone a little beyond playing comedy clubs. Perhaps TV appearances and such.

I recognized a couple of them. Though nobody was as 'big' as the host of BattleBots, who was supposedly unknown a few years ago.

yeah, what was up with the different # of people taken from different cities? Some cities had only *2* go through after the night performance.

Also, I'm probably just misremembering, but weren't some of the 'worst' performances from episodes we haven't seen yet? (i.e. I thought that because I didn't recognize the hosts.)

I knew it started at 8pm because of seeing an ad on a show the day before. (Some shows I don't watch for months or longer.. some I seem to keep up with.. Even WITH FF/30 second skipping the commercials, I seem to be lucky and see ads like this..)
Actually, now that I think of it, it might have been an ad during the NBC Nightly News.

Yea, I guess using the term pro wasn't what I was getting at. I just didn't recognize any of them. If you tend to go to local clubs you'll likely see many of these folks. But I've never heard them on the radio or seen them on TV. The last few years there were always a few I'd recognize.

I forgot his name, but the fat mexican that got busted texting his family. He had done a number of TV specials.

Rich Voss was already established. I dont' remember if he was on the Chappel show before Last Comic Standing.

I don't think there was a "city quota" at the time they filmed the episode. I think what they've done is cut back on showing some of the people that made it through from those cities because they don't make it any farther and it would just be a waste of footage. I base this on the fact that in both Tempe and Toronto (maybe they have something against "T" cities ), the cut to "we have just one more envelope to give away" was very abrupt, and was almost like they had already given several of them away, and they just didn't show them to us.

I do remember on one episode that after they said only one more to give away, there were multiple envelopes at the Judges table. Maybe just odd editing.
