Having problem getting pyTIVO to run???

Downloaded python and pytivo for windows but there doesn't seem to be an executable file to launch? I'm sure I'm missing something really silly so would very much appreciate a bit of guidance. Obviously newbie here....

Mine seems to run a file called "pyTivo.py". At least that what the shortcut icon is linked to for me to manually start pyTiVo.

I appreciate that but I have no file with that name. I've downloaded and extracted the zipped files several times and there just doesn't seem to be an executable file???

My PyTivo shortcut runs "PyTivo.cmd Start" to start service and "PyTivo.cmd Stop" to stop.

Is that when running it as a service? I don't use pyTiVo as a service on my machine. I just have a shortcut so it automatically starts when I log into the PC. I run my Blue Iris Camera program as a service, but I want that running even if it's rebooted and I'm not logged into the machine.

I get hung up very early in the process. I can't figure out how to edit pyTivo.conf??

Note the need to edit pyTivo.conf in 3 places

Is there an editor I need to use?

Thanks,

Greg

One more question please, if pyTivo needs to be edited in 3 places, why hasn't that been done in the source file??? No offense but this seems like it would solve problems for many of us and also make this simpler....

Use Wordpad with Windows.

pyTivo works on different platforms (Windows, Linux, Mac) and the path syntax is different on each plus not everyone places the files in the same location. Example below for the path to ffmpeg.

# FFmpeg is a required tool but downloaded separately. See pyTivo wiki
# for help.
# Full path to ffmpeg including filename
# For windows: ffmpeg=c:\Program Files\pyTivo\bin\ffmpeg.exe
# For linux: ffmpeg=/usr/bin/ffmpeg
#ffmpeg=c:\Program Files\pyTivo\bin\ffmpeg.exe
ffmpeg=/usr/bin/ffmpeg

No sir, I have not been successful yet. I'm sure there's still something I'm not doing correctly but it's quite frustrating. As example, when I edit pyTivo, the first step, is it ffmpeg= (blank)? I again apologize for being such a pain and Thank You everyone for trying to help..... Greg

Make sure you include ffmpeg.exe in the path. And not just a link to the directory.

Honestly, I'm getting frustrated. I can follow instructions but it just doesn't seem That I can find a complete set of instructions to follow. Right from the start:

wmcbrine pyTivo repository
Unzip the download
Examine the resulting README file
Note the need to edit pyTivo.conf in 3 places
1. ffmpeg=
2. [<name of share>]
3. path=
To do so:
Start pyTivo.py then go to http://localhost:9032/
or, copy pyTivo.conf.dist to pyTivo.conf and edit appropriately. Start pyTivo.py.
Go to http://localhost:9032/ and create a 'share' pointing towards some media files for your Tivo.
On your Tivo, go to My Shows / Devices / 'share' ... and enjoy.

This what I'm trying to follow and it just doesn't work...

Thanks again for all the help, you're a great community...

Greg

Are you following the windows install instructions on the pyTivo wiki, linked in post #4 of this thread? AFAIK, they are reasonably complete.

No. I've been using the following:

wmcbrine fork

This version is generally considered the stable mainline development branch and many fixes and enhancements are seen here first.
New users are recommended to start here

It's very hard to follow. That said, I printed the wili instructions for Windows Install and hopefully I'll see some success.

Friend, I do appreciate your help... Greg
