SciFi Channel & Copy Protection

Just wanted to know how many others are finding ALL or partly all of their Sci-Fi Channell Programming "Copy Protected" and not allowing MRV capability of any of their Sci-Fi shows that they recorded.

Trying to find out if it's a Sci-Fi wide issue, or local cable companies.

Thanks

TGC

P.S. I posted this. because until recently. Doctor Who was NOT copy protected on Sci-Fi. However, Today, starting with episode "The Sontaran Stratagem" it is now Copy protected. The previous "New Season" episodes have not been.

YEs... #3 is a double negative..... Hope people will catch that & understand what I am saying.

1. 100% of everything I record from Sci-Fi (SD/HD) is Copy protected
3. NONE 0% of my recordings from Sci-Fi (SD/HD) are NOT being copy protected

Your poll choices confuse me. I read #1 and #3 to mean the same thing, and no choice for "0% are copy protected".

But here on Comcast in MD, neither SciFi nor SciFi-HD were copy protected this evening.

Yeah my bad... #3 is a double negative. I think most people though will realize that and answer appropriately. I hope.

For me, it's not the Sci-Fi Channel, but rather TW Cable.

They (TW Albany) has set every channel to 0x02 for the CCI Byte except for our HD Locals. All other channels are 0x02 (including digital NON-HD Locals).

One of the main reasons I'll not get another TivoHD and stick with my Series2 DT for a while (unless TW changes their policy).

I have the same problem here in Raleigh. TWC decided to slap the 02 byte on all the digital channels except for local HD channels. It makes me mad because i want to transfer some of the UFO Hunters video to my pc and can't do it. I am sure someday someone will have a device that plugs into the cable and clears the ox bits but for now all we can do is complain about it.

Supposedly it can be done now, if one is willing to perform major surgery on their Tivo.

I've got copies of Tin Man, Doctor Who and The Sarah Jane Adventures copied to my PC with no problems. I'm pretty sure none of the content is flagged as protected through CableOne in Biloxi, MS.

I only watch one show on SciFi, and that's "Ghost Hunters." So far those are coming up as unflagged.

Charter isn't offering SciFiHD yet in my area.

I have been in communications with executive support at Comcast, and have been told:

1. You can record the content with 'our' box. (No, that is not so, I am talking about 'copy to VCR' which is prohibited on the SA box as well when the flag is set to 0x02).

2. It cannot be done. (Yes, it can. It's a switch to add the flag to the bit stream. Look at MHD for example, it's set to 0x00.)

I am waiting to hear back.

Well, I was able to copy Tin Man and the first few episodes of UFO Hunters but that was before TWC switched these channels from analog to digital.

I have both Comcast and FiOS. No copy protection from FiOS while everything has been copy protected from Comcast.

Comcast copy protects too much stuff and FIOS doesn't copy protect anything. It should be somewhere in between the two for copy protection. Although I do like the fact that nothing is copy protected on FiOS but realistically that can't last forever.

I don't watch much from SciFi, as I don't get SF-HD. But I recorded three shows for this test. All three can be transfered. Not copy protected.

I still don't understand the poll options, but I don't think any of the shows on my SciFi channel are copy protected. None of them have the locked icon in the program details, and I've always been able to copy shows to the PC when I tried.

I voted 3, but just want to say that NONE of my recordings from Sci-Fi HD are copy protected.

I only receive Sci-Fi in SD, so none of the shows are protected. Anything I record in digital (HD or otherwise) is copy protected. It is really bad when PBS is considered protected content . I am on Brighthouse, North Pinellas, FL

I have TW (Cincinnati) and all of my digital content is flag no copy, and it's very irritating.
