Cannot use channel up/down, can select channels directly

Having a peculiar issue that I'd love some help with. I have a Tivo Series 2, using a Motorola Fios box to decode Fios digital television. Recording works fine, no problems there. When I'm watching live TV, I can use the number pad on my remote to enter a new channel and it will switch, but I can't use the Channel up/down buttons. They register on the TiVo (that is, the light on the front flashes to show that it "saw" the remote), but it seems not to be issuing a command to the Fios box.

The Fios box remote works fine to change channels.

Is this somehow not a supported feature? Is there something else I'm doing wrong? I went through the remote setup process again, but that seems to be focused just on plugging in a specific channel number, not on surfing up/down.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciate. Thanks!

Are there other Motorola codes that you can try?

It sounds like you got the guide set to "favorites" but don't actually have any favorites programmed. In that mode channel up/down only scrolls through favorites but with none programmed nothing would happen presumably. Bring up the guide, hit enter, change it to "channels I receive" or "all channels". You can program favorites under the setup menu for the channels.

Wow! That was exactly it. Amazing, incredible, man I love the internet. Thank you so much, Stephen. I really really appreciate it!!!!! 30-second fix and it works exactly right now.

We used to have favorites programmed in there but they must have gotten lost at some point. As a side note, it probably would make sense for TiVo to recognize that if the user does not have ANY favorites programmed, the Channel up/down buttons should revert to one of the other two options!
