Is there currently a way to get an HD with Lifetime...?

...without doing the giftcard thing or buying an old unit with Lifetime and doing a transfer?

Is there a way to buy a new TiVo HD and put Lifetime on it? I heard there was an arrangement, but that it might be over now.

or knowing someone with a Tivo account and having them purchase a lifetime subscription for a new unit. The unit could then be transferred the new owner.

In other words, anyone with active Tivo service can buy a lifetime sub for her/himself or as a gift for someone.

Pretty sure this offer is still alive.

Yes, you can.

http://www.tivo.com/hdgift/

You will need the service number of another existing TiVo customer before you can proceed with the order. I'm sure a member would be willing to give you theirs if you ask nicely. Or you can find one with a Google search.

Or your own service number (but it looks like you don't have any at the moment). I just took this HDGift offer on Thursday, and used my own service number to order it.

Yes. We have a current account (which might be part of the deal... unsure) but when we got our new Tivo HD last week, I was able to call and get lifetime for $399. The offer is good through 4/2 per the rep I spoke with.

To clarify, you can only add $399 lifetime to a new TiVo if you already have an existing Series2, Series3, or TivoHD on your account. DirecTivos do not qualify.

You cannot add lifetime to your 'first' TiVo for $399. The only means to get lifetime on your first TiVo (besides ebay) is the gift package linked above.

Tivo let me, and at least one other poster, purchase ($399) lifetime even though my only existing tivo's are DTivos. Tivo already had my name and address on file. It's easier if you have a friend that can do it for you. It took almost a month to get lifetime added. The accounting department had to do something manually. It might have worked better if I purchased the unit directly from tivo, I bought my HD unit at COSTCO.

I went from DTV to FiOS.

I have never owned a Tivo and was able to use this link -- https://www3.TiVo.com/store/addpacka...m=PCAG7IVKS6A9 -- to add a gift subscription to my cart without a service number. I think I found the link on this forum, but I had it bookmarked from a while back and just used it a week ago.
