Possibly a stupid question about guide data

I saw in another thread in this Comcast TiVo forum refer to the fact that Season Pass will better be able to figure out repeats from new programs because the TiVo software is better than the original Comcast DVR software.

I understand then generally the TiVo software is better at figuring things like conflicts and Season Pass rankings, etc. but how would repeats versus new programs act any different?

I guess what I'm asking is, does the Comcast TiVo use the same guide data as the Comcast DVR? If so, I imagine the Comcast TiVo software would be at the mercy of the data it has to work with.

My currect Comcast DVR records tons of repeat episodes of The Simpsons even though I have it set to new only. This is because the guide data is wrong. Wouldn't the Comcast TiVo have this same issue?

Thanks.

I have not. Based on my experience with Comcast customer service to date, they'll probably have no idea what I was talking about. And, maybe I'm wrong, but I doubt it's Comcast that controls the guide data. Don't they get it from TV Guide or Zap2It or something like that?

Either way, I'm still wondering if the Comcast TiVo uses the same guide data as the regular 'ol Comcast DVR.

They (TiVo and Comcast) may get the same data from Tribune, but process it differently. I believe the Comcast-TiVo will get the regular Comcast supplied data (which they may have upgraded so work better on the TiVo DVRs), but the TiVo softwae would use it differently.

Just my opinions though.

no, the comcast tivo gets its guide from tivos servers (or its subcontracted provider), which is why the internal cable modem is activated

I get very annoyed when my Comcast DVR records repeats as new, but I have not had a single instance of this with the TiVO service.
