Loose power plug and optical audio
My Tivo Tivo HD has an extremely loose power plug and optical audio. They basically fall out the second I move the Tivo. Highly annoying for troubleshooting because I have to go through the entire guided setup again and again.

My last TiVO (Humax with DVD burner) had the same problem with the power cord, I ended up jamming little shims in to keep it in place, but even that didn't work real well. I attribute the premature death of its hard drive (at under three years) to too many reboots due to the loose cord. If your HD is still under warranty I'd try to get to exchanged, most units do not have these sorts of problems.

There's something missing from your story. It isn't necessary to do the guided setup every time a tivo is unplugged or reset.

Not that this would ever happen to anyone, especially me.. but make sure you pull of the plastic piece that is on each end of the optical cable.

The power plug is sort of universial among electronic componets. I think it is a polarized plug. The female end that fits in the TiVo box is sort of square on one side and more rounded on the other. It is a common item and ought to be available in any electronics store.
Again, you might just not be pushing it in far enough to get a firm fit. Same with the optical cable connection--it should sort of click into place. You might have to hold the front of the box while pushing to get a firm fit.
If it is seated as far as it will go, then as a quick fix, wrap the side plug with one wrap of plastic electrial tape. If that is too big to fit in the socket, make it a half wrap on the long side. Use something like a tooth pick to get the tape into the groove. You might not need to put tape in the groove, just on the end(s). This will beat the bother of having to return the unit to the merchant or going out to buy another power cord.

If the sockets are damaged, just get a replacement. I'd go through where you bought the tivo rather than Tivo, since I assume you'd prefer a new replacement to a crappy refurb.

I also have a loose plug with my TiVo HD, and others have reported the same thing in other threads here. FWIW, none of my other TiVo's have this problem...
