Jericho - 2/19/08 *spoilers*
How is there no thread for this yet? I thought this was one of those TC Favorites that gets a ton of comments even when the show itself doesn't get very good ratings.
Anyway, I like the way they're setting up the conspiracy angle. Seems that this new "president" is in on it, as is everyone around him. I wonder if they purposely committed the terrorist attacks so they could start a new country afterwards. How did the U.S. respond by blasting North Korea and Iran off the map if the eastern half of the country, presumably the part where control of that arsenal rests, was not on board with the conspiracy's plans?
And were we supposed to recognize the Ravenwood guy at the end, or is it just the fact that he's Ravenwood that makes him sinister?

The Ravenwood guy at the end was sent personally by "The Old Man," which is what makes him sinister. I don't think we're supposed to recognize him - I didn't.
The reason the conspiracy could trigger "FailSafe" attacks on North Korea and Iran is that, absent centralized control, the missiles can be launched from their point of origination - so they used missiles that were in silos in Western states - the folks in Jericho saw them taking off.

OK. I wondered if maybe he was the leader of the team that Jake fought off in the hospital in another town last season, or the leader of the team that backed down when the entire town of Jericho blocked off the bridge. I think that when he sees Jake, there's definitely going to be some recognition.

Yeah, I realize they could each be launched from their point of origin, but I got the impression from the propaganda that destroying N.K. and Iran was a decidedly U.S. response, yet it appears that the people making that propaganda and who were apparently in charge of that response are not fans of the U.S. at all.

The Ravenwood guy was in another episode. The town had a standoff with him & I they either destroyed or were going to destroy a bridge to protect themselves.

Did they? I have just recently started watching S1, and to my recollection, the missiles that the Jericho folks saw launching were terrorist EMP launches. Grady specifically mentions that the nearest silos were 100 miles away in Wyoming (presumably meaning they wouldn't have seen them, or seen them so closely)

They've played fast and loose with distances since the beginning. They also couldn't have possibly seen a mushroom cloud over Denver.

I remember him now - and I even rewatched that episode on UHD just a few weeks ago.

Eh, if you can see mountains in the background when supposedly in Kansas, why not the mushroom cloud over Denver.

Who played the Ravenwood guy at the end of the episode? I recognized the actor but could not place his name. IMDB was no help.

In case anyone at the network is listening...
This show IS getting better, and I want more.
I'd like another season, please - and a large fries.

One of my favorite shows on TV right now behind Lost and Terminator:
The Sarah Connor Chronicles.

J&R blondie
Who plays the blondie for J&R? I swear I have seen her recently. My best guess is Andrea Anders from Joey who was recently on Numb3rs.

I like this show...you really have to put away your real-world radar sometimes, but it's a great story. I like how it gives the scenario a "small-town" feel...but I feel that's going to change if the show gets picked up for more seasons...we'll have to see how the writers work that angle.
Something I wonder if they will go more into though...the bombing of Iran and North Korea. I just don't see bombing those countries and going home is plausible. There has to be A LOT of repercussions to something like this, not just from other countries around the world, but I just don't see everyone just letting that go.

I'm pretty sure she was the videographer from John from Cincinatti.
I absolutely have loved the last two episodes of this show! How many are we actually suppose to get before the conclusion?
I think the Major is going to end up throwing his lot in with Jake and Hawkins before it is over. He seems like a stand-up guy and has only been doing his job. I believe being made subordinate to a contractor from Ravenwood is going to make him suspicious and he'll finally figure out the whole Cheyanne group are evil.
Rewriting the history book already is pretty shocking...

Seeing that flag and hearing the fake new president say "The Allied States of America" just felt so wrong. It's really a scary thought. I think the writers are spot on about what might happen if that sort of attack was perpetrated on our country.

Agreed. That was quite disturbing. One would think that if he's that sure that he is the valid POTUS per the line of succession, that he wouldn't be changing the name of the country, nor its flag. Combine that with the history book's chapter title "The First Republic", and the new Constitutional Congress, and you're looking at the founding of a new country, not the progression of the old one.

I don't think he's making any claim that he's the person who should be taking over per the line of succession. He specifically mentioned that he saw a "vacuum of leadership" or something like that, and felt that he needed to step in.

We discussed this in the last episode thread. I think it's very plausible. If the U.S. were attacked with multiple nukes, I don't think the world community would have a problem with us retaliating. And if we hit North Korea and Iran with nukes, they'd be so crippled, they wouldn't be able to even defend themselves, let alone project force across an ocean. IMO, they world community would want it all to end and would just let it stand.

I think the last two episodes put Jericho back on track...very similar to the original season. There's more action and less "down time" which is what I expected for the second season which IMHO degenerated into a relationship fest. The new shows seem to have a harder edge and don't wander around as much. They stick to the "what if" concept..good stuff. My wife thinks it's headed into "24" territory (another favorite) and doesn't like it as much...says it's more geared for guys now. She may have a point, but I suspect it was mostly "guys" that made so much fuss when it was canceled. Just glad it's back.
My WAG is that eventually Jake and Jericho will have to bite the bullet and become allies with New Bern to fight off Ravenwood and the new A.S.A. bad guys.

Yeah, a lot of that stuff is over-the-top in ways that threaten to take me out of the story. I'd like to think that if they had a full season, they would have been a little more subtle, letting the creepy/fascist aspects of Cheyenne sneak up on us. But they only have what they have to work with, so I guess a little flying-mallet-itis is excusable.
