Tivo Series 2 is slow in response to remote commands

I have the TCD540080 Series 2. It seems that when I use the remote for any command (except tv controls) it is very slow in response, sometimes several seconds pass before it actually does something. I have the latest updates from Tivo. What could be the problem?

This is going to sound like an insult, but it's not... Are the batteries in your remote fresh?

It is not an insult and I have changed the batteries. It doesnt seem like an issue with the remote, but with any command the Tivo receives. As I mentioned earlier, the tv commands work fine (video select, volume, on/off). It seems like it could be an issue withthe Tivo box itself. I researched a little and found that around 2006 there was some complaints of the same problem. There really was no fix except a new upgrade from Tivo, but I never did hear if that resolved it. I just noticed it doing this a couple of months ago.

The problem is that you have the latest updates from TiVo which are very buggy and slow on series 2 hardware. Don't be impatient - its only been that way for 18 weeks so far

Does it respond better if you use the remote up close and personal? If so, check for IR interference.

No, it works the same up close, far away and normal. Also, there is nothing that has changed with my A/V equipment.
