Got my Comcast Tivo!! Other than the sluggish menus I have no real complaints yet.

My Install went well

Mine was installed on 25 January. Despite many complaints about failure in the downloads, mine went smoothly the first time. How did yours go? I think they fixed that problem

The problem varies from neighborhood to neighborhood. It has to do with your signal strength. It wasn't something that could be fixed for every one at once.

HiDefGator,
Any idea how comcast will get around this in the future? Or do you see a truck roll for every one of these installs always being a necessity.

I can't imagine they will need to do this forever. The download only took about 20 minutes.

thats probably because you had a good clean strong signal going into your box.

The cable infrastructor is old and piggy backed all over the place. Some folks will have strong signals, others won't. And I believe the only way to find out if the signal is strong is to have a tech come out and test it.

I don't know how they will bypass this. I know the goal is to be able to push this software to the consumers without a truck roll.

I got my install on the 26th. He had to swap the box to get it to work, but all is well now. The performance seems fine on mine.

The tech didn't test anything. He walked in, made a phone call and said he was going to wait in the truck. When he came back the software was downloaded. He didn't know how to program the remote so I showed him.

He probably tested the line from outside... Being able to call up and start the download is a smooth install as far as the techs are concerned. They call their office, someone "flips" the box to support TiVo, and then the download is sent. That's how it's supposed to work.

The tech was there to replace your box if the download failed. When it fails the box becomes a doorstop. My guess is they will always require a truck roll until they have done enough installs in each neighborhood to assume that all the signal problems have been fixed there.

I would assume they will also provide boxes with the software preloaded at some point?
