New to TiVO
I had my Comcast TiVo upgrade completed today, and I must say after reading and hearing of some horror stories, the install went pretty smooth. Even the tech was expecting an hour to setup, but the TiVo software downloaded to my box in about 20 mins, and 10 mins later it was up and running.
One thing I noted, I had asked both the cust. svc. rep and the tech if all the series recordings I had setup through the Comcast DVR would be saved and the both said they would, however once I went into the TiVo SeasonPass menu, none of my series recordings were there. A minor irritation, now I have to go back and set them all up (or as many as I can remember anyway).
Other than that, seems to be running ok, a little sluggish, I'm hoping that is due to the data still coming in for the guide (hopefully?????)
I am new to TiVo, and looking forward to it. Already impressed with a few of the features now available.
One question, in SeasonPass, when it says record in HD if available, doe sit matter what channel the seasonpass recording is set to? IE, I set something on standard def channel, but want HD recordings for that channel if the program offers it, will I get the HD version, or do I need to change the recording to an HD channel?
Thanks!

While I would hope so, I'm not sure. What I did was went into the channels menu under settings and removed the standard def versions of all the channels I also get in HD. (ie. ABC,CBS,FOX,NBC,USA,TNT,HBO...). Then I went and setup my seasons passes on the HD channels, also selecting 'record HD if available'. So far when possible I have only gotten HD recordings.

Hi, I had Comcast TiVo installed on Monday. I just wanted to try it out because I used to have DirecTiVos until I dropped DiredTV for Comcast and the TiVo Series3 and TiVo HD. When calling up to order a DVR and TiVo, I received a $20 a month credit for 12 months by asking for help with my big bill. I also didn't pay an installation fee. So it was easy to give Comcast TiVo a shot. I guess the rep was impressed that I was ordering DVR service just because of TiVo and because I just lost my $25 monthly credit from the dump the dish promo and my broadband went from $30 to $43.
Amazingly, I don't yet have a HD set and need not worry about HD channels, so I can't help you there. I do however agree that it works much better than people say. It's slower in some places than my TiVo HD, but it works. I don't use Dolby Digital sound, so that's not a problem either, but it sure works and feels like a TiVo. I see lot's of potential. I'm impressed they got it to work on somebody elses box.
It doesn't replace my TiVo HD. I use Rhapsody and I like some of the TiVoCast Channels, my favorite is Indy Mogul, and I have bought Amazon Movie downloads. However it's an acceptaple addition with TiVo inside and 2 extra tuners and some Comcast specific features like free ON Demand stuff. We'll see what else Comcast will add with help from TiVo. If it were not for the TiVo brain they put in it, I wouldn't have bothered to try it.

You own an S3 and a Tivo HD and you don't own an HD TV? That is just plain nutty.

Nutty, maybe. Embarrasing actually. All my friends are getting HD sets. Amazingly, I don't even watch a lot of TV. I was however looking at the new HD sets in BJ's yesterday. I probably will be buying one in the near future. I have to angle it in a corner of the room and might be able to do 45" wide, but 52", I'm not sure. We use one TV while rennovating the entire house for more than a year now and the living room is nearly ready, where the new HD will go within a month I think. My Sanyo 35" of 10 years still works perfectly. I never wanted to pay a lot for an HD but the prices are OK now. I love my TiVos and always buy the latest and greatest with Lifetime transfers and never lose money on them. I usually make money to cover upgrades to new TiVo models by selling the old ones with Lifetime on eBay.
