TivoServer 99% cpu

For the last couple of months TivoServer has taken to using all cpu cycles when first started (XP Pro bootup). I have to use TaskManager to kill it. Not every time, but much too often. Is there a way to start TS only when I need it? I tried but got an error message "The specified service does not exist as an installed service." I transfer via the browser, not TivoDesktop. What causes TS to use all processor cycles?

This happened to me as well.
But only when I restart my computer.
Seems no one knows what's happening.

Or at least haven't bothered to post a solution.
What I've done is go into TivoDesktop and under server properties, uncheck the box that says "start TivoServer when I log onto windows".
Once your computer has fully booted, and you want to start TivoServer, open TivoDesktop, and then open server properties. This usually starts TivoServer for me.

This happened to my wife recently as well. Turns out she had an incomplete AVI file in her My TiVo Recordings folder and that was causing the hang. Once we moved it out of My TiVo Recordings the server stopped eating up all the CPU and TiVo Desktop was able to launch properly again.

Remember 2.5.1 now support shortcuts and folders (and shortcuts to folders) so you don't have to have a bad AVI file directly in the My TiVo Recordings folder, it could also be in any sub-folder or sub-folder of a shortcut.

Okay, that might work, because the problem is when Windows boots. I don't actually use TivoDesktop for transfers, but I can certainly use it to start TivoServer. I have v2.3. Is that a problem?
