Where do go for very basic information

I am very new to Tivo and have the Series 2DT and an iMac with Toast 8.

I am not knowedgeable at all in audio and video. I know almost nothing about AVI, Divx, MPEG etc. So where would I go to get some basic information such as:

What formats can the Tivo accept?
If I download movies on to my Mac (from BitTorrent or elsewhere) what format would they be in and how would I transcode them (I did learn this word)
I am using Tivo Desktop, and have been able to retrieve a recording from the Tivo onto my Mac.

Please point me in the right direction.

Thanks, I have been seeing so much information, its overwhelming. I have Handbrake on my Mac, couldn't I use that to convert video files to MPEG suitable for Tivo and use TivotoComeBacK to put them on the Tivo for viewing?

I'm just trying to find a good tool that will allow me to take most videos, convert them to a format that Tivo likes and have them in my Tivo folder on my Mac so I can get them from Tivo when I want them.

I am already using Toast 8 to get content from Tivo to my Mac.

Thanks all.

Ok, with a little digging, figured things out. I purchased VisualHub, which converts to several formats included Tivo compliant MPEG2. VisualHub also has a Tivo Enabler that allows to push video to the Tivo. After conversion, I put the movie into my Tivo Shows Folder, shows up on my Tivo and transferred. Pretty simple.
