HDMI Switcher Question

There appear to be lots of HDMI switchers available. Since the TiVo is powered up all the time, will the auto-sensing units work? They are supposed to sense the signal and switch to that source. What happens when there are two active inputs?

Why don't you suspend your TiVo when you're not using it?

My Monoprice doesn't move off an active input. Same would apply if I had two active inputs. It wasn't a problem for me since I used a Harmony remote and it would change the HDMI switch to the correct input.

The unit I have works perfect with my Tivo. When I turn on another device, it goes to that device, and when I turn it off it goes right back to the Tivo. It's an Octava.

I also have an Octava switch - it allows me to turn off the auto-sense feature so that my remote macros select the proper input.

The auto-sense units typically will switch to the one most recently active.

The autoswitch unit I have for component (haven't needed to get one for HDMI yet) works by always switching to a lower numbered port if it becomes active. So devices like a TiVo which are always on should be put on Port 4, and devices you only turn on when using them (like a game console or dvd player) would be put on Port 1, 2, or 3.

For my purposes this works prefectly, and I don't have any issues with it. But if I had two always on devices it wouldn't work well, as I'd have to use the manual switch button to select between sources.

Hi, I am planning to purchase the Monoprice auto HDMI switcher. So, will putting the Tivo unit to standby, this will stop making it the active HDMI port on the switch box?

When you suspend the TiVo the video ports are disabled, so yes, it should show as inactive.
