Here's a Radio Shack tutorial on zinc chloride batteries:

A bit better than regular (carbon zinc) battereis but nowhere near as good as alkaline batteries. If alkalines are required these probably won't harm the device but you won't get satisfactory battery life. Certainly not usable in a digital camera.
