Backwards compatibility of remote signals

Are the remote codes on the TiVoHD the same as those for the Series 2 or earlier TiVos (I have a Sony Series 1, not sure of the other versions/brands out there)?

Reason I ask is I have a Sony LocationFree LF-X5 that has a fixed set of non-upgradeable remote codes. I'm not sure exactly which earlier TiVos it works with, but at least the Sony SVR2000. I assume the TiVoHD has different codes from the SVR2000 but hoping they are the same as some of the other older TiVos. Otherwise, the LocationFree will be a big pain to use. I know Sling is better in many ways, but the integrated and compact LF-X5 was perfect to put on the treadmill.

Discounting any new S3 commands, they appear to be the same as my S1 TiVo.

I believe the Sony remotes were different from the rest, but all the other remotes are backward compatible. I guess Sony decided they needed to be different from everyone else.

The TiVoHD/Series 3 are backwards compatible with all "Peanut" remote codes, for the most part.

The Sony TiVos did not use the "Peanut" code scheme, they used ther own, so Sony remotes, or Sony codes in universal remotes (which the LFT kinda counts as) won't work a "Peanut" controlled TiVo.

You could try Philips VCR or DVR codes though.

Thanks all! Just to be clear, the LocationFree has non-Sony codes. I was not expecting to use on the HD based on my old Sony TiVo codes. I am fairly sure that the LocationFree should also have codes for the old non-Sony TiVos.

The LocationFree, by the way, has many shortcomings (especially the lack of any way to learn new remote codes and lack of updates from Sony) but the integrated TV unit is quite nice. Not worth the $1K or whatever it initially sold for, but pretty good for the $200-300 on eBay.
