Question on "Moving"

Hi,
I'm in CT and had a DirecTivo for nearly 5 years and currently get NY locals.

I want to move to HD and I'm also moving to Albany NY. So here is the rub Albany doesn't have HD locals, so I was thinking about .....

1) Call DirecTV now and upgrade to HD before I move.
2) Stop my paper bill and then pack up and move to Albany, don't tell DirecTV.
3) Find an installer in Albany to put up my dish and hey presto I get HD locals from NYC.

Would this work or is there a flaw in my plan?
Also would DirecTv figure it out from the receiver calling back in?

Thanks

It sounds to me like it should work just fine. You could even call DirecTV and have them change your billing address to your Albany address and leave your service address as CT.

I can't add anything more beyond the reply above and the replies in your DBSTalk thread.

Use an address between the old address & next door neighbor's house that doesn't physically exist. As long as it's within the USPS valid address range, it will work in D* system.

eg: if his old addy is 2551 main st & the next door neighbor's is 2555, use 2553. Or, just add 1/2 onto the existing address.

We do realize we are discussing "theft of services"?

No, because WE are NOT stealing a damm thing!
I pay the SAME amount of bill, whether it's my actual physical addy OR my Chicago one.

If you really want to stretch it - the ONLY thing I could remotely be "stealing" is my eyeballs away from my local advertisers, & giving them to the Chicago ones; ask me if I give a rat's heiny...

Theft of services is when a person obtains services by deception, force, threat or other unlawful means. It is illegal for satellite companies to sell distant network services to households that can receive local broadcasters' free over-the-air signal from a rooftop antenna. Shvera provides a way to receive distant locals if "cannot receive, through the use of a conventional, stationary, outdoor rooftop antenna, an over-the-air network signal of Grade B intensity as defined by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), has a satellite dish that is permanently attached to a recreational vehicle or a commercial truck; or, is subject to a waiver granted by the television network station."

Sorry you went to all that trouble of the rehash, but I still WON'T be loosing sleep tonight...

And, since it is SO illegal & since it is SUCH a heinous crime, please name me ONE subscriber that's been fined, gone to jail, had their TV's taken away, etc, for doing this dastardly deed of watching TV from ANOTHER market - PULEASE!

Even for the few people DirecTV might have caught doing this, they simply switch their address back & life goes on - it's NOT a capital murder crime.

D* is still getting the same amount of $$$ from me, & in some cases, is getting MORE $$$ for the subs in markets that have NO locals, so that's why they have no interest in policing this - & they COULD, if they really wanted to...
