Tivo not connecting to wireless network "DHCP server could not be located N02"
I've had my two tivos happily connect to tivo for a long time but just a few weeks ago, it stopped communicating with tivo and the wireless network. Here's my setup:
- Tivo Series 2 dvr DVR 1115
- Tivo Series 2 dvr/dvd
- airport express wireless router as network
- D-Link DWL-122 wireless USB adapters connected to Tivos
I tried configuring it automatically and an assigned Static IP with no luck. My computers and iPhone connects to the wireless network without any problem. Again, I was doing just fine until a few weeks ago without any change in the network. Called Tivo and they told me they don't know anything about Macs but I think this isn't a Mac or PC issue. Anyone who's had the same issue or have suggestions, I'd be greatful. Thank you.

Is your wireless network secure? If not, a neighbor may be inadvertently using it and has been assigned IP addresses that conflict with your TiVo's.
In any event, try rebooting all devices in this sequence:
Shutdown your modem, router, iPhone and PC. (I assume you have assigned static IP addresses correctly to your two TiVo's and all the numbers are correctly setup.)
Start your modem and wait until it reboots, lights are steady.
Start you router and again wait until it has finished rebooting.
If your TiVo's have static IP addresses, then they should now be able to communicate with the router provided others are not using them. Make sure the router has the range of IP addresses you assigned and is setup to accept static addresses.
Now start you PC. I would suggest that you also assign it a static IP address to avoid future conflicts.
Finally, start the iPhone and see if it connects successfully. I assume the iPhone is automatically assigned an IP address whenever it is detected by a wireless router.
Also for future problems a freeware software program "The Dude" available at:
http://www.mikrotik.com/thedude.php is a program that monitors all of your network connected devices and will help you trouble shoot problems using pinging, etc.

still doesn't seem to work....
Hey JacksTivo, thanks for your quick reply on this issue. I tried doing exactly as you instructed but it still gives me the N02 error. I tired 3 different static IP addresses, I know for sure that those static IPs are available and my network is secure. The strange thing is that when I set it up automatically, it assigns itself an IP and detects the network. It's only when I ask to connect to Tivo that it tells me that I can't find the DHCP server. Any other thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Carefully check your router IP address and the one listed on your two TiVo's network connection page. Recently I had difficulty setting up a network bridge for my S1 unit and somehow the DHCP server IP address changed on my S3 by one digit during the process of assigning IP addresses. Took me a couple of hours to notice the error I made.
Are you using WEP security and do the TiVo passwords match the one on your router? Finally is your firewall set to allow access to the TiVo IP addresses?
If all efforts fail consider downloading "The Dude" to help you troubleshoot.

Turn off WEP/WPA on the router and try to connect. If it does, then turn the security back on.

Turn your router off, then on
I've been having this problem/getting this message for months now on my S2. After trying all sort of IP related activities and TiVo setup things I finally discovered that all I have to do is turn my router off and then back on to solve the problem.
It's become so persistent that I've gotten to the point where I plugged my router into a light switched outlet. As long as I remember to flip it off and on every few days things work just fine. If I let it go three or four days without off/on the TiVo problem shows up again.

had to re-enter WEP password
I had the same problem on my Tivo. It suddenly stopped connecting and gave me the n02 "cannot find DHCP" error.
After 2 hours(!), I finally figured out that the Tivo had "lost" my WEP key (they call it password). I went to network setup, chose my network from the list (it was the only one) and then when they asked for my network password, I put in my 10-character-hex WEP key. Now it works fine.
Maybe this will help others avoid wasting 2 hours turning things on and off!

UDP TCP Port Opening
To all, in order for the wireless network to work with Windows XP, you must open a number of TCP/UDP ports in your Windows Firewall. Go to Network Connections, right click on your Local Area Connection icon, goto Properties, Advanced, Windows Firewall (click Settings). In there, you will click Exceptions. You now need to Add Port, one at a time, for the following (Note: I name them each by the port they are so they can be easily identified, you'll get it when you try):
TCP: 37, 80, 443, 5005, 5222, 5223, 7287, 7288, 8000, 8080-8089, 2190, 4430, 8101, 8102, 8200
UDP: 37, 123, 2190
Some additional ports listed above were prompted by my Tivo, and are not on the site (and some are on the site, not prompted by the Tivo). I've listed them all. After doing this, both Tivo found the network, and Tivo Server started working.
Hope this works for you!

Time to revisit.
I've had a wireless adapter on my main tivo for some time now. I had zero problems installing it and it's worked seamlessly everyday since. Until . . .
I decided to get a wireless adapter for the bedroom tivo, installed it the exact same way as the initial adapter and now receive the 'DHCP server could not be located N02'. So I decide to check the settings on my main tivo (which has been wireless for some time and has worked perfectly) and now I get the same message on that one. I use WEP 128 but also tried disabling my security and got the same thing.
When I open my tivo desktop it now tells me that there are no networks found even though I've transferred numerous shows to my laptop as recent as Saturday.
First, is there a reason that my main adapter would just stop 'working' and second, what can I do to make it work. I no longer have a home phone so I'm in a pickle.
I'm not nearly as tech-saavy as others on this board but like I said, I managed to have it work until this weekend.
Thanks!
