Hi,
I've read the various threads on possible harddrive failures on DirecTv Tivo's. (I have a standard Hughes Series 2.)
I put in a 120 or 160 HD a few years ago, using the Hinsdale tools. Just copied the whole thing over to the bigger drive. No OS upgrades or anything.
In the past month, we've started having odd issues. Sometimes it will freeze mid show. Sometimes shows we've had recorded and saved for years will disappear. (The listing will be there, but going to watch the show results in an error or lock-up.) In nearly all cases, we've had to physically power off the system. Every once in a while, a corrupt show does not lock the system, and can be deleted.
My hunch is this is a corrupt harddrive issue. 2+ years on a low end IDE harddrive seems plausible.
I've read the various other forum posts, etc. (Especailly this thread...
http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb...d.php?t=335120), and my game plan is as follows:
1. Back up just the blank Tivo (with the -s option for shrink) back to my original 40 gig drive which I still have but have since formatted.
2. Run the MFS Tool disk repair utilities on the current drive.
3. Copy my current drive over to a 200 gig drive I have laying around that's been barely used. (Yes, I know the size limit prevents all 200 being used.)
Anyone have any other ideas/thoughts for my recovery?
Thanks,
Jon
