MFSCopy - How longdoes it take?
I started doing MFSCopy for Tivo HD from 160gig (with ~10 hours of HD) to 750 gig. 160GB is connected via USB1.1 - SATA adapter and 750Gig is directly connected via Sata cables.
After I started MFS Copy, computer almost froze (can barely move the mouse) and progress bar is not updating. It has been about an hour and I was wondering how much more should I wait or whether I should even wait?
So, usually how long does it take to complete MFS Copy?

USB 1.1 = 12.00 Mbs or 5.40 GB/h Transfer Rate (Theoretical)
10 hrs HD = ~6G/hr + TIVO OS ~0.5G
60.5GB/5.4GB/h = 11.2hrs

I tried it with a USB/SATA converter, and ETA was about 10 or 11 hours. I let it go for about 10 to 12 hours, and it still wasn't done. I finally interupted it and took apart my computer to do the SATA ports directly.
For me, copying a 750gb drive that was full to a 1tb drive took about 3.5 hours (3 hrs and 20 minutes if I remember right). This was having both drives hooked up directly to SATA ports.

I would rather have this Sata to Sata. But, my machine has only 2 sata ports, one of which is the Windows Drive. And, since WinMFS works only on Windows, I have to keep that running. So, I don't have any choice other than connecting one of them via USB.

The transfer rate will be far less than 12 Mbps - USB involves a lot of protocol overhead. You might get 8 Mbps or so, putting the estimate about half again as long, so about 18 hours or so.

You should use USB 2.0. USB 1.1 is painfully slow.

Wow - I just did the same thing (160GB -> 750GB with a lot of recordings) on two drives both connected via SATA and it took about 1 hour.

Amen.
With USB 2.0 - eSata I get about .6GB/min copy speed in WinMFS. That happens to be about 60-70% of the copy speed I get between USB2.0 drives using windows (ie ~1GB/min)

Spike has said in the past that Sata-Sata is over 2GB/min on a good computer.

I would be highly skeptical that USB 1.1 is going to cut it. It's likely you're going to get IO timeouts running on a bus that slow.
My advice would be to use TTG and pull off the recordings you want, do a truncated backup in winmfs to file, shut down, put in the target drive, do a restore from the backup, extend the drive, and go about your business. TTCB will eventually allow you to get the recordings back.

I couldn't imagine using a USB 1.1 interface to copy a drive. It is too slow for anything like that.

I think I'd use the MFSLive boot CD in this and try the SATA to SATA.

You could also try creating a Bart PE Win XP SP2 boot CD and boot into a Windows environment from it, with your regular drive disconnected. Just make sure you put the WinMFS app on the CD as well and you should be fine.
