Plural of TiVo

Do you spell the plural of TiVo as:
TiVos
TiVo’s
TIVOs
Tivos

Inquiry minds what to know!

As a guy who frequently blogs about TiVo, this is something I wrestle with. TiVo's looks better, but I feel like TiVos is correct. So I usually just avoid the issue by writing "TiVo units" or *boxes, *DVRs, etc.

To your eyes, perhaps., but I don't think it's customary usage to pluralize with an apostrophe.

I'm with Phox on this one, only with a slight spelling change:

TiVii

TiVos is plural, TiVo's is possessive. But I'll often use 'TiVo boxes' or 'TiVo units' or something that sounds better.

the TiVo inc. take on this is that it is actually a TiVo branded DVR. To be completely correct you should say TiVo DVRs or TiVo boxes, etc.. TiVo, inc. wants to be the adjective not the noun or verb

Intended formality of "DVR" behind the word "TiVo" notwithstanding, I'm going to go with TiVos for the plural form.

Everywhere I look these days I see apostrophes inappropriately used to make something plural.

I believe it is correct to say "1990s" instead of "1990's" even though the latter often seems to look right. Aren't acronyms also supposed to be pluralized without an apostrophe, too? SUVs, ATMs, HMOs.

If only we could teach most people how to properly use its/it's, you're/your, and they're/their/there. Honorable mention: seen/saw. Whew.

Well, "TiVo's" is right out. Apostrophes signal contractions or possessives. Never plurals.

Well I checked in with a TiVo PR contact to see if their style guide covers this... Neither TiVo's (obviously) or TiVos is correct. It's just and always "TiVo." So there you have it. I'll continue appending box, boxes, units, DVRs, etc for plural.

How do we know that was only one contact. It could have been many. Very suspicious.

I wasn't referring to your grammar, just highlighting I was talking about language that comes out of TiVo.

Using TiVo in a sentence:

Many of my TiVo are using larger hard drives than their original ones.

Transfering recordings between TiVo is one of TiVo's great features.

The TiVo you are using can access many TiVo on your network.

It would make more sense for TiVo to be the plural of TiVo if cooperative scheduling and push transfer and remote delete/keep until... make their debut. At that point all TiVo merge into TiVo as one.

There is actually one usage where "apostrophe s" is acceptable to form a plural: when you're pluralizing a single letter.

An example: He added two t's to the end of that word, when only one was needed.
