Got plus, Got a PC, .avi still doesn't transfer!

I upgraded to Desktop Plus today and was happy to see that all of my home videos recorded in .wmv and .avi now appear in the Now Playing list on my PC. All of the files are playable on TiVo Desktop Plus no problem. I click them and they play. However, when I bring up my Desktop Plus selections on the TiVo, the .avi files have the old ghostbuster sign next to them (not the .wmv files, they're fine). When the .avi's are selected for transfer on the TiVo I get the message: "Transfering prohibited by the copyright holder".

Since these are recordings made by me, and I'm the copyright holder I don't know what's going on.

Here's my setup:
TiVo HD
Desktop Plus on a Windows XP
All other files transfer with no problem, including WMV files.

Oh yeah, and when I convert the .avi's to .wmv's they play fine too!

I just wanted to bump this to see if anyone has any suggestions. I've got the same problem with some video clips I made of my kids. They're .avi files, and they also come up with the copyright problem. But they're videos I made, not something commercially produced. My setup is the same as outlined by the OP, except that I'm using a Series 3.

Is this some type of copy protection I inadvertently have set on the files on my PC? I checked the properties on the files, and I didn't see anything that looked like it was a problem. (Although I don't know a whole lot about file protections under XP, to be honest, since my background is with Unix systems.)

Thanks in advance for any suggestions,
Debbie

TiVo Desktop Plus only supports .AVIs that are in DivX or XVid format. Video captured from your video camera is probably in DV-AVI format. I agree that the "copy protected" message is confusing though.

Thanks! I'll see if I can find a conversion utility.

Or maybe it's not really worth the effort. But it's still nice to have an answer.

Just to follow up, I used Videora to convert the files to mpeg4 (and loaded them into Itunes at the same time, so I can see them on my TiVo and my iPod), and they're working just fine now. Thanks again, Windracer.

Thanks... I have this free software from Jodix that converts almost anything to MPG4 (nice for viewing files on Ipod). Anyway, did some quick converting and all of the videos now transfer.

Same issue here except the weird thing is, they worked yesterday. They are definitely DIVX. I was able to transfer them yesterday. But today they show the copying prohibited by content owner.

I upgraded divx to 6.7, I think this is when the issue happened, I upgraded to TivoDesktop 2.5.1 today and it didn't fix it.

Any ideas?

Figured it out.

I stopped the tivo server, then killed tivotransfer.exe
then I went to

%userprofile%\local settigns\application data\tivo desktop
I deleted the cache folder
then I made a folder called old and moved
cookies, history, imagerotation,transfercookies,transferqueue to old

Restart tivotransfer
and restarted the tivo server

Now my Divx files work.
