Tivo and new HD TV

we just bought a HD TV and we would like to hookup our series 2 to that. I understand that Tivo won't support the HD channels and we can watch then but not through Tivo.
So how would I hhok it up?
We have a Comcast cable Box, receiver and no VCr and the series2
Have no idea how to do this and still view Hd channels

First you need to upgrade the Cable Box to the HD box. Then just use a two-way cable splitter and split the input cable, one leg to cable box, one to Tivo. Connect cablebox to TV using Component (RGB) and Audio (RW) cables. You could use HDMI instead, but many Comcast cableboxes do not support HDMI.

The other leg of the split would go to Tivo, and then connect Tivo to the TV using s-video and stereo audio (RW) cables.

You will just need to switch inputs on the TV to watch Tivo or HD.

This will only allow you to record on TiVo the basic channels. If you want to record digital channels on the TiVo also, you could forget the cable splitter and use the AV outputs from the cablebox as input to TiVo and use IR (or serial cable) to change channels on the cablebox, but this would lead to confusion when TiVo tries to change channels and you also are watching the HD channels.

Or just forget all of this and get the TiVo HD and move the S2 to your bedroom.

Don't know what problems you heard about, but there should be none introduced by connecting it this way, with the possible exception of signal degradation from the splitter. But as long as you have a strong signal and not many other splitters this should work fine.

Another possible method, if the HD cable box can feed an HD picture to one unit, and a SD picture to another device, both at the same time-

Do NOT split the cable, and feed the cable into the HD box only.

Feed the HD box into the TiVo thru one of the cable box's output methods, and also into the HD television thru another cable box output.

Then feed the TiVo into the HD set thru an input the cable box isn't using.

This will allow the TiVo to record all your HD channels, in standard def. At the same time, the HD set is getting the same channels, but in high def.

The only down side is you can't watch one show while recording another, but it does let you record all your HD channels on the TiVo, but also watch them live in HD on the television.
