Saving Grace (pilot)

It's only half way through, but I'm liking it so far!

I thought it was very good. If you haven't done so already, put a season pass on it.

I'm still on the fence. I liked the plot twist but found Holly Hunter's character to be completely unlike-able - which is odd because I usually like Holly Hunter. Plus - I just kept thinking: How old is she? (the answer which is 49) - I hate to be the one to say this, she seems a little long in the tooth for the character. Lastly, was it me or did anyone else have trouble understanding what she was saying every once in a while? I almost put on the cc for translation.

I enjoyed it, and will rewatch on the S3 in HD later this week since the quality on the MCE PC for TBS is poor.

I really liked Earl, and I like the fact that it's being very upfront with it's belief in God, I'm not usually one for that being quite the non-believer, so that's saying a lot for the show, cast and story.

+1

I'm not a religious person at all and tend to be a little anti-organized religion (though I do have a moderately open mind towards spirituality in general), so I was worried this show might be a little heavy-handed. But, so far I am enjoying it.

Plus, I love Holly Hunter and am always happy to see Burner (yes, I watched way too much Pensacola in college, since that was the only thing on every night at about the time I stopped studying (we only got a few stations)).

The wings were a bit hokey. I'd have preferred something a little more Constantine like, but other than that I liked Earl. Hunter's character is broken. Really, really broken. She's barely holding it together with the help of a few folks and with this on top of all of that she's going to have a heck of a ride. If they manage to not take the easy route, this could be great TV.

BINGO! If they can hold it together and not wimp out, this will be a great series, if they wimp out.. it's just going to wind up "Touched by an Angel PD"

I'm also in the right age bracket I understand a lot about how broken Grace is, and how she got there.

+1 I like that her character is tortured by her past and fighting everything in her path but her drinking was a little over-the-top. Her boss, who was in her face on at least 3 occasions, couldn't smell the alcohol on her? It's not like she changed clothes that often either. And she made a mid-day pit stop with the medical examiner at the bar.

Earl too was a bit much with the wings and tobacco-chewing. I hope those don't make frequent reappearances as the season goes along. They didn't resolve the cattleman-sexual harassment story either. I did like the closing minutes with her nephew who seems to keep her a little sane.

I'll watch a couple more and hope that the unevenness of the pilot gets smoothed out.

I enjoyed the show and even liked seeing Grace's partner.

I'm a bit anti-organized religion as well and this show didn't bother me one bit. I enjoyed it quite a bit!!

This is definitely a very promising show. Not too preachy; not too outrageous. The characters have the potential to be very interesting.

Me too, but I always loved Joan of Arcadia because of the contemporary, almost flippant way it treated the God "person." That made it palatable to me. In this, kind of weird they copied the "Earl" name from My Name is Earl though. Couldn't they have called the angel Bubba or something else?

We watched this last night and I really enjoyed it a lot. The wings were a bit over the top - reminded of that Michael movie with John Travolta. Hopefully, we won't see them again at all.

Loved when she decked the cattleman, but her punch looked too wimpy to bruise him.

My husband was surprised by the opening scene and said "THIS is on TNT?" I loved how cleverly they edited the sex scenes, so that Holly didn't actually show anything, but you still got the essence of what was going on. Personally I'm glad to see TNT not be afraid of this or language. This is the first series I've ever watched on TNT and the frankness made me think I was watching one of the great shows on HBO. Use of Tivo helped me reinforce that by being able to ff'd through all the dreaded TNT commercials.

Really enjoyed how the ending at the Oklahoma City Memorial pretty much answered one of her "why" questions about why her sister was killed. To me, she realized that if she hadn't been "sick" (probably drunk) and could have babysat the day before, her sister wouldn't have been there that day. I'd say that will give her more incentive to change her ways.

Although, she's going to have to be a real hard sell to rehabilitation to make the series last very long.

Great surprise ending with the kidnapped child. Since they wrote her off as dead, they had the audience convinced they'd never find her alive.

I give the show and set a season pass after last night.

Cheryl

I got the impression that she fully realized what her part may have been in her sister's death LONG before then and that is why she is the way she is now - I don't think she was just then realizing what part she may have had. I thought it was great that she shared that with her nephew to get that burden off of his shoulders (her being there to get his SS Card).

And I really do think the angel being named Earl is purely coincidental and has nothing to do with that other show whatsoever.

Her partner sure looks different (older? more 'downtrodden'?) than he did in The Shield - I didn't even recognize him right away in that opening scene (though I may have been a bit distracted ).

I am definitely keeping my SP and am looking forward to next week already!

I watched about 20 minutes and gave up. It's just not for me I guess. Starting a pilot with a humping scene just seems like a cop out to me.

I watched it as well. I thought they went WAAAAYYYY overboard on the whole "Hey, we are in Oklahoma City!" thing. And I am seriously doubting any of it except the memorial ending, was shot in OKC. I've been there many times and I did not recognize a single thing beyond the memorial.

The "hick" element was played up way too big, again, most of OKC is NOT farm/hick.

And while I do think shes cute, did we really need to see her butt naked going nasty with blackeye guy? yeah we get it, she's a drunk who is out of control.

I hope they tone back these things and focus on the character and stories more.

They are playing to a TNT audience, after all.

TNT = the new fX? Remember when Rescue Me started and it was off the charts boundries wise with the "sex" and vulgarity.

TNT is just following suit.

She certainly doesn't have an OK accent. Her drawl is from somewhere else.

The initial bedroom scene was interesting in HD too, we saw what was Grace's scar, but I was sure in a lot of the shots I saw a flesh colored body suit on her.

And they're not prettying up Laura San Giacomo, I'd bet the teeth are an appliance
