Mythbusters 6-20-07 "Snow Special"
I don't want to say it's jumped the shark, but I don't know, it just seems that this season has been, well, lacking in the actual myths department.
Some of the things they've tested lately haven't really been myths, but known facts, especially the build team's myths.
As for this episode:
Who doesn't know that your tongue really will stick to a metal pole? Okay, I mean I know they're Californians but come on.
And the driving? Same thing. Anyone who's driven in snowy/icy conditions knows that the skill of the driver matters more than an itty bitty more traction, and no one is more skilled driving backwards than forwards.
I was annoyed.

I don't so much care about the myths anymore. I just love seeing them do stuff.

Adam in the helicopter causing avalanches was pretty awesome.

Seems like Jamie and Adam get the good/real myths. The other team seems to be there just to take up time and space.

I think they need to test the "Kari in a wet bathinig suit and going into a cold storage warehouse will increase ratings" myth!

The driving backwards was an audience request. Didn't they say that on the show? Yodeling causing an avalanche was unlikely unless the snow was really, REALLY ready to go. The dynamite in the helicopter was quite entertaining.
Being from Minnesota, I can pretty safely say that almost everyone tried the tongue to the frozen metal (flag pole, door knob, etc) sometime in their young lives. Ever see Christmas Story? It's just something that happens--once! What exactly was the myth?

They probably should have kept the avalanche "myths," done a more structured test for the driving backwards thing (perhaps a remote controlled car), ditched the tongue to a pole thing, and added in something like a "how cold does it have to be for water to freeze before it hits the ground?"

Some forklift drivers are very very good and forklifts are built with rear wheel steering making them equivalent to the rear wheel driver Mustang going backwards. I wish they would have tried a rear wheel drive vehicle on their little snow planks so they could compare that with the front wheel drive results.

I don't think that it would be any different. If anything, the rear-wheel drive would have less traction because it has less weight above it.

They get a lot of audience requests. That doesn't mean the requests are worthy of getting done on Mythbusters.

Yes, I'm from Boston, and that's what I was saying. Everyone has either done it, or convinced the neighborhood stooge to do it, and those who haven't have seen "A Christmas Story." It wasn't worth doing.

Well, at the end of the episode she did ask for people to submit things for them to test that involved a nice sunny tropical beach.
