How many play MP3's using their S3 (Not s2 or s1)
This is Poll number one of Three.
I am trying to find out how many people use the music capability of the Tivo S3 & How many people have NAS (Networked Attached Storare).
I would like to see TIVO, Add support for DLNA certified NAS devices. That way we don't have to use a computer, or Tivo Desktop to play Music, Photos, & even video that we have rights too.
Thanks
TexasGrillChef
I forgot to add the Poll! DOH!

I use the photos and music features, serving the files from a WindowsPC that is on 24/7. I'd be very interest in runnning the server application from an NAS.

Can't Imagine *NOT* Having A NAS Unit...
I currently use the Music (not Photos) on my S3 from one of my Desktop PCs (and occassionally my MacBook). I have a NAS (with an attached External USB HDD to it), and also 3 other External HDDs with Media files (Movies and TV Shows, one is small and only a backup of all my music) on them.
I currently cannot access my 40GB "Music Backup" HDD from the Tivo Desktop Software (to "publish" from the folders on it) as the connection to it from my computer is slightly weird, but I have these same files on the USB attached to my NAS (becomes like a 2nd NAS unit) and while these were originally my backup files, they have now become the actually "used" files and are completely accessible to "publish" in Tivo Desktop Software from my PC.
This makes it very convenient other than the fact that, yes, I do have to have the PC turned on and run the Tivo Desktop Software just to have it pick up the stream from the files on the NAS/External USB combo.
I am not sure my NAS would be able to run any kind of software on it though to have it act as a server (I am assuming this is what the DLNA is for?) though it may as it is a Buffalo Tech brand and supports the Home Theater media streaming with use of a (Buffalo Tech) LinkTheater...

If it's possible to set it up on such a device (I know that the Firefly media server will run on them, so it can't be a huge stretch), there's always JavaHMO...

I don't play mp3s/photos on my Tivo. I don't even use HMO/HME features in that folder. Heck, I don't even listen to MP3s or photos in any form on my A/V system.
Yes, I do have a NAS (Linksys NSLU2- hacked), and a network media client (D-Link DSM-320), I only use those for stored video.

Re. MP3, I tested it and it works fine. My problem is that my CD library was ripped in WMA lossless format, which the S3 does not play. I use a Roku Soundbridge, and it works great and the sound is fabulous.
I tried the photos feature, and it works sometimes. It starts out ok, but then it has some kind of problem and puts up a "broken picture" icon instead of the photo, seems to get "stuck" on that file when it changes to the next frame (i.e. shows the same file name) for a while, then it sometimes starts working again and other times it just keeps showing the same icon/filename over and over and you have to cancel it. It seems random as far as when this happens. Using a wired ethernet.
EDIT: Never mind, just found the answer here:

(Had an older version of Java runtime).

I use the S3 to play MP3s. I don't have any NAS box.
I'd like to see the S3 display the album art when playing songs.
I'd also like to have it refrain from switching to live TV when it
reaches the end of an album or playlist.
(What is it about the darn box that it is so intent on showing
me live TV? I have a TiVo so I don't have watch live TV.)

I have a home server (but no NAS). Server has all of my digipics and MP3s. I play 'em on the TiVo all the time. Also photos now that they have the HD photos; it was a little kludgy looking before, but the HD photos look good.
All my music is MP3s; no WMA, no nothing else. I have about 25,000 tracks. I also use a SqueezeBox to play them in the bedroom (no TiVo in there). GREAT little tool

I use Galleon on Linux, which is serving MP3s from a Buffalo LinkStation 250gb NAS, to play MP3s on my S3 through the receiver to the speakers outside by the pool.
Since I run the OpenLink firmware on the LinkStation, I've considered trying to run Galleon directly on it instead of a second server, but haven't gotten around to trying that yet.

I'd like to use it but . . .
I just tried it and it won't play. My music is on a Mac and works on my other two Series 2 machines just fine. On the S3 the music stutters and stops. The first time I tried it the S2 was recording, but I just tried again and it still won't play. Just for fun I tried looking at some photos and that doesn't seem to work wight either.
The computer is on Wifi, but that has never been a problem before. Again the Series 2 units work perfectly.
EDIT: Fixed by an S3 restart.

I play mp3's through S3 all the time (all personally Lame-encoded) - its awsome - because that tivo is hooked up to my best receiver.
No NAS though ... never found it cheap enough to justify buying it instead of plain USB external storage.
