Slingbox killing my HR10s?

First, sorry if this is in the wrong forum.

I have one of the original slinbox units hooked up in my home theater running an HR10 model DirecTivo unit. It took a while, maybe 4-5 months, but the HR10 unit in the theater died... so bad that even replacing the hard drive and re-imaging doesn't work.

I have 3 HR10s and happened to have one I could move into the theater, so I did so about a month ago. That HR10 now has the very same problem.

Coincidence?

It could be the room, but I don't see how. Nothing else electrical has ever been damaged. The only difference (besides location) is that these HR10s were hooked to the slingbox.

Crazy as it sounds, is it possible for the slingbox to do anything to damage a unit? I am guessing not. I'm guessing that its just bad timing or coincidence, but at the same time I'm not willing to plug in another HR10 in that room or put an HR20 in there either.

Just curious if anyone has had HR10s die so bad that even new hard drives with new images wouldn't fix them.

When you say they died, what do you mean? No video at all, stuck at powering up, or what?

Any recent changes or additions that would block or mess with the ventilation around the unit in the Theater room?

Summer arriving and switching from heat to AC or swamp cooler?

dont see how a slingbox can kill an hr10, i have an original slingbox on my hr10 and another on my r10 and been working for 2 yrs..

as im sure you know the slingbox acts as if youre physically holding the remote infront of the unit.

like phox said it could be heat or poor ventilation

Its strange, they just started freezing up (video) at first. Might last one, maybe two days and then lock up. If I keep powering down and up, they are ok - but who wants to do that. I finally did a clear all programs (delete) reboot and it came back saying to wait an hour as it cleaned up the unit. It was on 24 hours when I gave that up. I figured it might be the hard drive, so I replaced it with a fresh image (dont this before plenty of times) and it came up just fine, but gave an error (sorry I cannot remember the exact one) that the sytem detected a hardware failure and would need to be restarted. Each restart woudl give the same error (shows up as a message) and no recording would happen.

The room is long, but it should have good ventalation. The Tivo sits in an open air location - much better than some of my Tivos that sit on shelves with no air moving around.

Temp is always controlled, maybe even on the cool side most of the time if anything. (69-74 degrees usually)

I knew it was a long shot, but I wondered if the slingbox was sending signals to the remote that somehow would eventually wear on the thing.

In the past I've lost hard drives, but never the actual unit itself. Tow in a row the exact same way. Could it also be an update? They worked just fine until an update that happened around December that I think others had issues with as well.

That part sounds like the "Error #51" problem which happens when you restore an image to a different box. If you run another "Clear and Delete Everything", it should fix that.

What Brad said.....reimage the hard drive again and when you see the error, which is probably Error 51, do a clear and delete everything - that will correct the error.

Yea, I keep doing that - each time it comes to the deleting screen it freezes. I re-image, it gives me the 51, I delete - it freezes. Crazy. Two in a row that way, and I even tried two separate brand new drives. Its a loop I can't get out of. I've lost hard drives many times before and it never halted like this. (same instantcake image too) Odd.
