Which has better scaler: Sony SXRD or Series 3?
I know this is subjective, but I am curious as to the general consensus about which has the better scaler. My Sony is full 1080p, and the Series 3 is currently set to output at 1080i fixed, as I do not care for the slowdown/screen adjustment when set to Native or Hybrid.

IMO, the SXRD is better.
I have the 60" SXRD XBR1 (still 1080p, just can't take 1080p input, which doesn't matter for the S3), so I've been watching for well over a year now, and I've tried both native and 1080i fixed - definitely prefer native:
1) 480i content is substantially better letting the SXRD upscale it
2) 720p content looks slightly better letting the SXRD upscale it
The minor resolution switch is not a problem for me - it takes less than a second in most cases. And the picture quality improvements trump a minor delay in going to/from menus.
Hope that helps!

Yes. Originally connected to the TV via HDMI and AVR via optical. Now connected to the AVR via HDMI and the AVR feeds the TV via HDMI.
The TV has a noticably better scaler in all setups, expecially for 480i content. Not to say the S3 was bad, but the native resolution configuration gives me a better looking picture overall, which is mostly what I want when watching TV, right?

I belong to the school that I can't see the difference. I have the XBR3, but assuming they are similar electronics (?), I tried letting the TV do it, and the S3. Couldn't see a difference. And the blip from resolution changing is a real PITA (IMHO). Not only does it do it when you change channels, it does it when you go back & forth to the TiVo menus.
Let your eyes be the judge; it's an easy comparison to make. Many of us are happy letting the S3 do it, but there are naysayers. Well, there's AbMagFab.

I use native for my Mitsubishi 57831. Better picture to my tired old eyes.
