More questions.. can TiVo hold ripped DVDs?

Hi again..

Just wondering.. can my TiVo record from DVD input? I have a couple I like to watch fairly regularly (ok, so they're exercise DVDs ).. just wondering if I could record them like any other show and keep forever? That way I don't have to swap out discs.

Just a quick question!

Annie

Yes, just do a manual recording (tivo+7).

Remember the tivo VCR SCART is output only, so you'd have to daisy chain it from your homechoice box, or use RF/aerial.

No you don't. Just put the DVD "out" SCART into the AUX input on the Tivo. Then choose a non-existant channel. This will give you a two-hour window in which to record your DVD to your Tivo. You can always add padding if necessary

So you think she should plug/unplug homechoice from the AUX SCART every time ?!

I know it is a different question altogether but is it possible on a UK series 1 to transfer video files to the Tivo from a networked computer?

I suspect the answer is no. US series 2 and 3 do this I know.

It would only have to be done once to record both DVDs onto Tivo (assuming both were done at the same time)

Obviously if it became a regular occurance then it would be more awkward.

Looking at the box on the Homechoice website it says.....

"On the back of the box there are 2 scart sockets, one which connects to your TV and a spare one in case you would like us to connect the box to your DVD player or games console. "

..... so that offers another option for recording from DVD. Connect the output of the DVD player to the second SCART on the Homechoice box.

Yes you can, but its a banned topic on this site.

Search for tivo insertion on google

If it's a regular thing then maybe another solution should be found. For one-off, occasional use I don't see a problem.

No US Series 1 has Network functions, unless you hack the units.

US Series 2 and 3 units can transfer Video Files to a Networked Computer, or to another Networked Tivo unit, but you CAN NOT transfer any Video File from a Networked Computer to a Series 2 or 3 unit.

Sure you can, I do it every day, search for the tivoserver thread in Underground.
