The chicken bit was ridiculous. I can almost picture the writers at their meeting saying, "Crap, we've only got 12 minutes of material," with Seth responding with, "Eh, put an 8 minute chicken battle in there."

So the chicken is married to a hen. When did it turn from being a guy in a suit, to a real chicken?

He can be a guy in a chicken suit married to a woman in a hen suit and they are always in them

Loved when Peter threw down some money during the fight to cover the bill

Really? Was Josh Radnor in it as well?

I just thought they'd nailed those voices, and didn't think to check the credits to see if it actually WAS them.

Really enjoyed this ep (especially after last week, which I thought was weak). Lots of great moments mentioned above,

I thought this was much stronger than last week's. I couldn't believe the "I'll turn this ship around" bit.

And Stewie asking if the maritime academy has a preschool was great.

I'm now thinking it was both Radnor and Harris providing their own voices. IMDb doesn't have the credits for that episode yet.

TV.com credits both Radnor and Harris as guest stars:

That happened during the first chicken fight I think. It was a guy in a suit then suddenly it was a real chicken. I agree with what others said that it was like they needed to fill 10 minutes. Other then that and the slave ship this episode stunk.

When the show first came back, they did what I believe was fight #2, and the man in a chicken suit turned into a chicken-like man, with no explanation. I think this was fight #3.

I couldn't believe how much of the episode they had to fill with it. I mean, it was funny and all, but yeah, it just seemed like they didn't have much for the 'real' story and had to do this. I was watching some of the first season episodes on Adult Swim this past week, and they seem so odd now because they don't have the rapid randomness of the new ones. Peter has gone down the road of so many other TV Dads, and just got stupider as the show progressed.

Warren is correct. Peter has fought the same chicken in all three fights.
