Smallville 5/3/07
OK, I got about ten minutes in and so far it's just appalling. Is there any reason to continue?

That's funny... I stopped watching too, shortly after it went black & white. I decided there was better stuff to watch than crap that'll turn out being a dream with no value whatsoever to the overall arc.
I figured I'd come here and ask those who did stick through it if there was anything that happened worth wasting 34 more minutes of my life on.

I turned on my DVR and it was about 30 minutes into it. I saw the black and white and the 50's setting and nearly deleted it on the spot.
I'll keep it and see if someone watches it to say it's worth it.

1940s, actually.
Yes, it was so charming to see so many burning cigarettes all over the place, I swear half of them didn't even have people connected to them. They were just THERE.
Oh, and we got to see Michael Rosenbaum and John Glover SMOKE! So important to the storyline...umm...dream.
And then they made Jimmy GO AWAY at the end!
Maybe he'll DIE and end up being replaced by a nephew/namesake in a few years, so the Jimmy Olsen at the Daily Planet will be ten years younger than Clark, like he's supposed to be.
To be honest, I have a feeling I know what Jimmy's leaving means for the show, but I won't say it here since it'd be spoilery.

After the first commercial after they went B&W, I FF'd until I got colorized again. Actually, we managed to get about the same level of plot advancement we usually get, but it only took me about 15 minutes to watch it all, so that was good.
From what little I saw of the B&W and from dialogue near the end, I guess the B&W was supposed to be some kind of allegory as to what's really going on that Jimmy doesn't realize but apparently his subconscious is? In any case, it seems like it didn't matter at all except to provide some kind of catalyst for Jimmy to realize that the cigarette case was significant.

Normally I watch Smallville almost-live - buffer for about 20 minutes, then start watching at 8:20. Last night, I started watching at 8:40, and at 9 turned it off in favor of watching Supernatural live. I don't think I'll go back to finish the episode. At least it appears to have been a standalone - was it?

the main development of tonight's episode was that lionel wanted lana to marry lex so she can keep tabs on lex. lana discovered that lex is working on a secret "project" with a senator (the super soldier from last week). instead of telling lional this information, lana took it to the daily planet, where she was shot by (we assume) a hitman from the senator.
i'm not quite sure if chloe realized that lana knows clark secret but basically lana told chloe that she was protecting clark from kryptonite and she married lex for him. chloe in turned to clark to back off finding out who shot lana.
the rest of the 40's episode was blah . .the first 5 and the last 10 minutes was all you needed

The first few minutes when Chloe acts like the Lois Lane from the classic B&W Superman series and Clark is likewise the clumsy bumbling reporter was kind of a nice homage to the original. Other than that, the B&W was blah...

I haven't watched it yet. I read the episode description and saw it was a Jimmy flashback to the 40's and decided I'd just skip it. Why do they do those things?

I decided to start cleaning when it went black and white. I can't believe they would show such a horrible episode in may. I did catch the end when they went back to color.

I'm a big fan of noir films, so I enjoyed it for the visuals. Some of the shots were really well done, especially some of the Lana shots.

I can't believe that no one mentioned that Lana got shot twice and died once!

I thought I would REALLY hate this episode. But watched it through to the end. It wasn't THAT horrible. Better than many Smallville eps of the past few seasons, anyway. But I certainly won't miss Smallville when it ends, sadly.

What I loved was that Lana's gunshot wound kept switching shoulders.
When they found her in the elevator, she was shot in the left shoulder. First shot of her on the gurney had the bloody bandage on the right shoulder and the left shoulder was clean. Second shot of her on the gurney had the bloody bandage on the left shoulder.
Then at the end in the Smallville medical center I think she had the sling on the right arm again.

One interesting bit was that during Jimmy's noir dream sequence is that it looked like they spliced bits of older B&W film in with the new footage. There were a couple car chase bits that I really think came right from The Big Sleep.

Equally funny was the fact that she had to be medivaced from the big city of Metropolis to freaking Smallville for a gunshot wound to the shoulder.

It takes time for word of mouth to spread. Next weekend may be telling.

I watched the whole thing,
But, I was playing Shadow of the Colossus on my PS2 via splitscreen, so smallville did not have my full attention.
/5 minutes of plot advancement

The visuals looked ok. The plot was kind of inane. Didn't we already know lex's basic plans? He wants to filter the city's water supply through kryptonite minerals and make everyone have super powers, seemingly. Also he's got the big cyborg skin graft guy from buffy involved somehow.

I kinda enjoyed the B+W stuff, especially in HD. Mostly the lighting and such, I guess?

In B&W there's 66.6% less Lana.
