Series3: Costco or Tivo.com? Which is better?

I know it seems simple that the tivo price is cheaper but their customer service and reputation on returns seems shaky at best. Costco gives the 2 year warranty now and that could be a real life saver later down the road. Does any know what the actual charges for shipping and sales tax are for either of these? My new 50" Panasonic Plasma is going through Tivo withdrawl. Thanks.

COSTCO
  • Shipping included. (State sales tax will apply).
  • Covered by Costco's unconditional guarantee.
  • Eligible for multi-unit discount.

I bought mine through Costco because of the return policy. I wasn't 100% sure if it would work OTA because I use an indoor antenna and as a result have some multipath issues. I liked the ability to carry it back to a Costco warehouse if I wasn't happy. Fortunately, the OTA tuner worked better than my old STB and the unit has behaved flawlessly. It's a keeper.

You could always use a Platinum mastercard or American Express card and buy from TiVo.com, and get the 2 year warranty too (90x2 = 180 days for labor I guess).

Depends really on how the math works out for you, whetehr you need the wireless adapter and want to pay monthly, and at what rate (MSD?), as opposed to the prepay required for the tivo.com deal.

Ad hoc, ad loc, and quid pro quo!
So little time! So much to know!

I was not aware of the prepay requirement for the tivo.com deal. It looks like it will be costco then. I get 2% of all purchases for being a business member thing. Thanks for your help.
