Do I need a new hard drive?

My Tivo is caught in a loop. It started Tuesday in the morning. I have a pioneer DVR-57H. I noticed that on the display that it said power on. I turned on the TV and it said “powering up, TiVo has detected a problem it could take up 3 hours to fix it leave it on do not reboot or unplug, if it does not work call customer service for help.” Or words to that effect. Then with in 30 second (not 3 hours) it rebooted and started all over again.
I noted in a thread that 8.3 is out. I don’t know what was on it but I think it was 8.1? Could it be the hard drive or just software that is bad?

Could be either. Do you have a backup image available to reimage the drive?

No, I had thought of buying a bigger hard drive and keeping the old one as a backup. Now I wish I had. Is there a way I can put in a bigger drive and copy the shows over to the new drive?

Yes. Look in the tivo upgrade center area for information. It's really easy to do
