Can I stack my Series 2 on other A/V products?
As long as no vents are covered up, is there any problem with stacking my S2 TiVo on top of a DVD player or vice versa? How about putting it on top of my Comcast Motorola DVR?

I have my S2 under some other devices (VCR & Cable box) without any issues. Been like that for almost 5 years.

I have a 20" LCD TV on top of my S2. Been there for about a year with no problems.

Ok, here's another question. Not that I'm planning to do it, but can a TiVo be placed on its side and work without any issues?

Sure. The HD will work in any position and its well secured. Again providing ventilation is the key. Heat kills electronics. Make sure the vents are not blocked.

If you put it on its side, put the end with the power supply up. Heat rises, and the fan is on that end, so you want the heat to rise to the top so it can be exhausted by the fan. Make sure you don't block the vents on the bottom or rear.

A 20" LCD TV is usually about 15-20lbs, I believe.

An LCD is pretty light. I would not put a CRT TV on top of a TiVo.

Since you're putting it on top, it really depends more on the other device (the one underneath). As someone mentioned, heat rises, so putting something on top of a hot-running device could cause problems for that device. In theory a really hot device underneath could "cook" the TiVo, but in practice that's usually not a problem.

I've mentioned this before, but there was a time when I had 3 TiVos, an A/V receiver and a VRC all sitting in a big stack on a coffee table I used for an "entertainment center". I never had any problems with heat or weight, and the stack was surprisingly stable.

One trick I saw for helping to keep 'older' TiVos cool (those TiVos that have the vents on the lower left and right sides and no fan vent in the back). Put a piece of rolled up paper under the TiVo to prevent the warm air from circulating under the TiVo. Otherwise, the warm air from the right vent output can be drawn into the left intake vent.
Also, avoid putting heat-generating electronic equipment into a closed cabinet unless it has good air circulation to the outside. (I have my stuff in a cabinet, but I removed the glass doors because there was no real way to easily circulate the warm air out.)
P.S. If you are worried, check the TiVo temperature on the System Info screen. (My lower TiVo is at 43C, and my upper TiVo is at 45C in a 76F house.) I thought there was a way to check the temperature of my digital cable box, but I can't recall what buttons to push to bring up the diagnostic screen (Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2200).
P.P.S. And last, I would probably put the larger devices on the bottom, keeping in mind to try and put the hottest devices higher. (As to putting a TiVo on its side, I would be worried about heat rising in the TiVo, so I might be a bit concerned that whatever end is 'up' might get hotter than whatever end is 'down'.)

My TiVo S3 has been stacked on top of my Momitsu V880 upconverting DVD player since I got the S3 three-and-a-half months ago. I have had no problems with the arrangement; both the DVD player and the S3 work perfectly and have shown no sign of overheating.

My 23" Sony LCD (with the stand) is 27lbs. I wouldn't put that on my S2.

I've got a 70 lb Spectre TV on top of my TiVo Series2. Don't recommend you do that, but it has worked for over a year for me with no problems.

I have my S3 on top of a DVD player in one room, and a S2DT below a DVD/VCR combo in another room. No problem at all. The only time I ever had problem was stacking a ReplayTV on top of a AV receiver. The AVR generated too much heat in the summer for the ReplayTV.
