Not mentioned yet: That they decided to add a member to their entourage after Tracy told the guys that they had just made some extra money helping out a Nigerian prince get his money out of his country. For the uninitiated, there's a whole class of internet scamming surrounding this pretense.
Jordan: "I just got the check!"
OK, maybe I was the only one who found it funny.

I thought it was amusing that Tracy fell for the email scam, but I was confused by the fact that Tracy actually received a check! Most scams work the other way around, where Tracy would have had to write a check to someone else, and would have been out of the money ...

Nope, not the only one; I thought it was hilarious. I did have to point it out to my wife, though: it went right by her. She's very technology-savvy and knows what the Nigerian scam is, she just missed the reference. I think it might have gone by a lot of people.

I think that's why it was funny. He's this complete idiot who lucks into money and fame, and even when he falls for a scam, it works out in his favor.

That's the joke! Tracy took the email up on it, and it was actually legitimate and he got lots of money for it!
At least, that's how I interpreted it. And if that's not right I don't want to know, because my way is funnier

The way some of the Nigerian scams work is that they ask you to deposit a check, and then wire them money back to Nigeria via Western Union, with the understanding that you will keep part of the money for your effort and help. However, the check is eventually determined to be fraudulent, although some banks will tentatively credit your account (and then come back and demand the money back after the central clearing house for checks informs them the check is worthless).

I wasn't aware of this aspect of the scams. I guess I have a good spam blocker, or I'd know more about this!

As madscientist said, the other interpretation is much funnier.

Michael Scott from the Office once referenced this way back when:
"When a Prince of Nigeria reaches out and asks for your help, you help. He's a prince"
or something like that.

I googled for the exact quote:
When the son of the deposed king of Nigeria emails you directly, asking for help, you help. His father ran the freaking country, OK?"
Funny stuff...
