30 Rock 2/22/2007 "Hard Ball"
'Oh no, now the man doing the crabs getting excited.'
Another solid episode. Jenna doing Maxim and the ensuing fallout was the best comedy I've seen done on that subject so far.

I loved Liz Lemon saying "just because I think gay men should be able to adopt and <oh phooey... something else I forgot...> doesn't mean I don't love America"... then she looks right at the camera. Funny! And Jenna's interview was great, with her mixing up Osama and Obama etc.
The C plot with the entourage was pretty lame, although Kenneth is always amusing.

And that everyone should drive hybrids.
You could see the Obama and Osama mix up coming from a mile away.

Funniest episode yet for me. Plenty of LOL moments. The Maxim thing, the Osama thing, the swastika thing. I looked to see whether Conan O'Brien was in the credits. The humor reminded me of his.

There definitely were some funny moments but this episode as a whole was a little too over-the-top *wacky* for me. Too much wackiness was ensuing.
I did like Tina's little wink to the camera but it really was bizarre and seemed to come out of nowhere. I don't remember them ever breaking the fourth wall like that, have they?
Jenna slipping and sliding because of her salad dressing legs was pretty funny though. I wonder if that's ever really happened at one of those girlie mag shoots.

Sure, but doing it on that show in that way was funny to me (not so much the joke itself but how/where it was said). Meta-humor makes me laugh sometimes.

Wow, this show just keeps on hitting them out of the park every week.
I loved Tracy's rendition of "I will always love you" at the ending. Hilarious!

I was laughing my ass off at that. He had a certain 'Astronaut Jones' singing inflection.

I had to laugh at how proud Jenna was on Hardball when the host mentioned her not contributing much to the conversation except for a few bars of "MuffinTop." Her proud response - a simple, "Thank you!"
I never cared much for Alec Baldwin, but he really makes this show. He plays Jack perfectly...so smug.
*sigh* I'm going to miss this show.

Did anyone catch the news crawls during Hardball?
Panda murder-suicide shocks china • Wolf Blitzer injured in wolf blitz • Mysterious visitor from future wins lottery again • Anne Heche leaves husband
It actually looked like Chris Matthews was laughing ... I wonder how many takes it took just to get what made it to the air?

Yeah this episode was ridiculously funny. Have to say it is a very close second to The Office right now for sitcoms. I can't think of any other show I would put up there with those two.

Very funny this week! I watch Hardball almost every day, so seeing Jenna with Chris Matthews was great.
I loved Jack's ridiculous "negotiation set" of furniture.
Josh's agent was beyond annoying with the abbreviated words.
Loved watching the guys let Tracy win playing video games. Then Tracy busts out with "If Kenneth can beat me, and you can beat Kenneth, then by the transitive property, you should beat me too!" I like a little math humor now and then!

"Television ON!" "PORNOGRAPHY!"
Tracy talking about the transitive property cracked me up, too.
The huge picture of a toaster oven in Jack's office made me laugh. I don't remember seeing that there before.

I hated Tracy Morgan when he was on Saturday Night Live. I love Tracy Morgan on 30 Rock. Weird.

I thought the way that Jenna sold that Obama/Osama joke was the funniest non Jack thing so far on 30 Rock.
She was so proud.

That furniture made me think of some of the negotiating tactics, a grizzled old marketing V.P. used to brag about at one of my previous employers.
He said it was always about putting your opponent at a disadvantage. He said he liked to hold meetings in his hotel room and he would make sure that there was only one chair in the room (which he would take) so that his opponent would have to sit on the bed, and better yet schedule the meeting at the right time of day so that the sun was at his back (in the chair) and shining in the eyes in the sales rep. sitting on the bed...just one more thing to increase the discomfort.
Ah, the good old days, when negotiating a better rate on billboards or bus shelters signs was like a dogfight. Dive on them from out of the sun with your guns blazing.
The worse part was when he proudly claimed that this strategy was particular effective if the sales rep. was a woman.
Slimy, but true.

While I admit that Quintuplets blew, Andy Richter Controls the Universe was hilarious.
Unlike 30 Rock for the most part.
While I had my first laugh out loud moments of this series with Jenna and the photo shoot and Jenna on Hardball, the show is still a mixed bag.
Again, I found Tina Fey's Liz Lemon almost unwatchable as she switched from wanting to help Josh to "Crush him! Crush him!"
Perhaps they should just get rid of Fey's character?

The only annoying thing for me about '30 Rock' is the occasional small appearances by another SNL actress (can't think of her name) - she did an unfunny Barbara Walters impersonation not long ago, and is some sort of lesbian animal trainer in some episodes, and other small (and all unfunny) parts. I wince whenever I see her on screen - other than that, the show is pretty entertaining. It's one of only a few sitcoms that I actually watch.

Clearly you haven't been following the threads for the show or know it's production history. Rachel Dratch is good friends with Tina Fey and originally they were the two stars of the show, with Rachel playing the Jenna character. The pilot didn't test well so they brought in Jane Krakowski and retooled. Because Dratch was already under contract, they kept her around and simply made it an ongoing joke that she would show up in various bit parts throughout the series.

The Bodyguard ending was hysterical. "Tracy, you really saved us from that crowd." "I sure did."
Rachel Dratch screaming for the boycott of NBC and it's parent company, on MSNBC, was funny too.

Fourth wall wasn't as blatantly broken before but it was more or less broken the first time they had the snapple product placement.
