TiVo branded Wireless Adapter vs. other brands?
Does the Tivo-branded Wireless G USB Network Adapter work better compared to other brands (linksys, etc)? Should I invest $50 or so to buy this "special" adapter when I already have a Linksys USB adapter?

first off - what model of linksys adapter?
if the linksys is a wireless then
there is no question the TiVo adapter will give you better performance. It is tweaked to offload the grunt work from the TiVo CPU whereas other brands meant really for PCs do not do that with a TiVo. You should shop around though for a better price then 50$.
for wired
If it is USB 1.1 or some older model it may be dragging you down. You should be getting realtime or better on high quality if everything is working right.
I just recently took the wireless adapter off my 240 to give to my Sistewr-in-law along with a TiVo. (she is having twins and needs a Tivo for sure) I have a wired Linksys USB200M that I put in its place and still get far better then realtime on high quality transfers.

simple answer - if you do a lot of multi room viewing, then it's worth it
it speeds it up, but is it worth it to you?
yeah and don't cross post

Is there a reason why this is listed in multiple forums?

My bad...
My bad for posting the original question in two forums. After I posted here, I decided to repost in the S3 forum since my situation was related specifically to an S3. I shouldn't have broken the forum rules .
Thanks for all the responses.

i'm sure 99% of the time this happens people do what you did, post and then realize it was in the wrong forum so they post somewhere else. What this looks like is that you are impatient and just post everywhere.
I'm sure you had no intentions like that and i'm sure everyone here isn't really upset

oh I am hopping mad
and the S3 changes the answer slightly for now. since you can not do MRV or TTG on the S3 then any old network connection will do the job.
now if you are thinking that someday you will do MRV and wnat to future proof - then get the TiVo wireless adapter

For me, the cost of replacing my wireless adapters with the Tivo wireless G models was worth EVERY PENNY.

Not really, since it appears the TiVo brand adapter is the only supported adapter on that DVR.

The current 8.1 software has the same adapter support on both the S2 and S3.

I got a Tivo wireless adapter as an reward and the thing ROCKS! Before I tried several times to use a wireless (linksys) but was unhappy with the connection and speed, and it was annoying going behind the tv and switch it back to hard line when I was unhappy.
I tried the Tivo adapter, saying "what the hell". Installed it and have now forgotten that I even am using wireless.
