If you have any firewalls on your computer, try temporarily disabling them.
At least that way, you can eliminate the firewalls being a problem.

When I had my problems, I had Windows firewall off, and my security software set to allow the proper Tivo ports.
I could get my music/photos to the Tivo, but I had trouble "seeing" the Tivo from the computer (i.e. "There are no DVRs on this network").

After 'digging' deeper into my computer, I found that my ethernet connection on the motherboard had its own firewall also.
Once I disabled that one, no problems since. (Knock on wood)
